Noah POV:
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and the warm sun shining on my face. I stretched my arms and looked over to my right, only to see Cody still fast asleep. I couldn't help but smile at the sight of him, even though I knew I shouldn't be having these feelings. I quickly got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to freshen up.
When I came back, Cody was already awake, rubbing his eyes and yawning. "Good morning, sunshine," I said with a smirk.
"Morning, Noah," he replied with a smile. "So, what's the plan for today?"
"I was thinking we could explore the island," I suggested. "Maybe find some cool spots to hang out."
"Sounds good to me," Cody said, getting up and going to get ready. A few minutes later he came running up to me, getting way too close. I backed up a bit. "Let's go!" Cody said with a smile.
We headed outside, grabbing some food and drinks along the way. We walked around, checking out the different areas of the island and discovering new things. As we walked, I couldn't help but notice how we kept getting too close to each other. Every time it happened, we quickly brushed it off, pretending like it was no big deal.
"So, what do you think of this place?" I asked Cody, trying to distract myself from my thoughts.
"It's really nice," he replied. "I mean, it's not exactly a tropical paradise, but it's still pretty cool."
"Yeah, I agree," I said with a laugh. "But at least we have each other to keep each other company."
Cody chuckled. "I guess you're right. We should stick together."
We continued to explore the island, talking and laughing as we went. We found a spot by the water and decided to take a break and just enjoy the view. We sat down, side by side, and for a moment, everything was perfect.
But then, just like before, we got too close to each other again. This time, our faces were only inches apart and I could feel his warm breath on my skin. My heart was racing, and I didn't know what to do. I quickly got up, pretending like nothing had happened.
"Uh, I think we should head back now," I said, trying to hide my embarrassment.
"Yeah, I guess we should," Cody said, sounding a little confused.
We walked back to the cabin, not really saying anything to each other. I couldn't help but feel like I was hiding something from him, and it was eating at me. I needed to tell him how I felt, but I just couldn't seem to find the words.
When we got back to the cabin, we were both exhausted and just wanted to rest. We got into our bed, each lost in our own thoughts. I couldn't help but feel like there was still so much unsaid between us.
I grabbed a book Chris had provided me, reading it to try and distract myself from my thoughts.
"So, what's on your mind, Cody?" I asked, trying to break the silence.
"Noah, come on. We've been hanging out a lot lately and every time we get too close, you just brush it off like it's nothing," Cody said, sitting on the bed and facing me.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, trying to act cool and sarcastic. "We're just chilling in our room. What's the big deal?"
"The big deal is that I think there's something more going on between us," Cody said, his eyes fixed on mine.
My heart almost stopped. No. No, he can't find out now. Think, Noah!
I couldn't help but let out a sarcastic laugh. "Dude, you're reaching. We're just friends, roomies on this island."
Cody looked at me for a moment, then smiled. "Alright, I'll drop it. Just... If you ever want to talk, I'm here, you know?"
"Thanks, man. That's really sweet of you. But there's nothing to talk about," I said, turning my attention back to the book I was holding.
As we sat in silence, I couldn't help but think about what Cody had said. Was there something more going on between us? It can't be. Cody would never like me.
God, I sound like a stupid, in love high school girl.
Screw you, Cody.
