Peering through the crack in the wardrobe, the only thing I could see was a hooded boy holding a vial that apparently seemed to contain ordinary water, but looking closer, I noticed a piece of paper on which was written: "Warning! Extremely poisonous! corrosive, keep in a cool dry place". I wondered what he was doing with that poison in his hand, but there was too much dust in the closet and despite trying to hold back as much as possible, I finally sneezed and no one present was able to say a word. I heard footsteps getting closer and closer to the wardrobe and there I began to panic. From what I could see from the crack, I noticed that it suddenly froze. The strange boy now seemed more restless now, and he decided to leave the room with shrewd and silent steps. A good half hour went by, then I heard someone open the door: "Who the heck is that now?" I thought to myself. I was relaxed when I saw that the person who entered was Meghan, and I saw that she was holding a box. I came out of my hiding place and asked her why she had a bulky box in her arms: "We need it to examine the professor's body, so at least, when he arrives, the police will be able to carry out any checks. But the most surprising news is that I managed to fix the school wifi, so we can call home and ask for help, or rather, you can do it, I left my cell phone at home" . I sighed with relief and, I confess that criminology has intrigued me since I was a girl, so hearing those words a shiver of emotion ran down my spine. Once out of the room, we approached the class where the murder had taken place, but we realized that the door as well as being locked was locked with a bolt: it was massive, so any effort to knock it down would have been in vain. "Damn it," I said. "The botany teacher has so many of those trophies in her studio that in a while she doesn't know what to do with them anymore, we could try to borrow them to try and make a hole big enough in the door, so we can fit a arm and unlock the latch," Meghan offered. "No, because it would make too much noise, and they could hear us. The school is big and already makes a lot of echoes, now that nobody's there it's difficult for them not to hear us" I said with a certainty I'd never felt. "So, let's try to stop by later, I have a funny feeling," Meghan said. Anxiety can play tricks on me, I thought. We entered the computer room and stayed there for another two hours, hidden in the recess of two desks; I was undecided whether to tell Meghan about what had happened while she was away, but I didn't have time to open my mouth before a thought flashed through my mind. "My cell phone! I left it in front of the art room door!". Meghan stared at me with astonished and incredulous eyes at the same time, but she limited herself to answering: "Are you sure you don't have it in your pocket?". I double-checked, but there was no trace of my phone. So we were forced out of our hiding place, cautiously, hoping that no one heard our footsteps, and we hurried along the corridor. Had they discovered us now, there would have been no escape routes, as there was no sign of furniture to hide behind. Fortunately it didn't happen and a few moments later we found ourselves in front of the classroom. To our amazement, we found the key that unlocked the secondary door to access the art laboratory on the ground and we girlhurried to pick it up; but there was no trace of my phone and panic was starting to rise up to my throat. "Meghan, you see my phone isn't there," I said in a shaky voice. "Are you sure you left it here?" she asked me. "Sure. I couldn't have left it anywhere else." "Wait, I hear footsteps, we have to hide, come over here." She dragged me towards the teachers' room, to which only imperial scholars had access, thanks to an intricate code that was extremely difficult to memorize. I started awkwardly typing numbers on the keypad but the door didn't open. The footsteps were getting closer and I tried again desperately, praying for the door to open, but in vain. On the third try it opened and we scrambled inside. Once the door closed, we could hear the sound of footsteps, which were slowly getting closer and closer to our hiding place. Suddenly they stopped and a sound made me paralyze. My phone was ringing, so that meant that someone had stolen it, and that "someone" was holding it at that exact moment. The ringtone stopped. I hoped what I was thinking hadn't happened. I heard a voice coming from the other end of the phone: "Livery, do you realize what time it is? It's after seven thirty and you're not home yet. Oh my god, I'm starting to worry! Livery, will you answer me?" Suddenly the line cut and silence fell again.
