A father protects. It's what gives him meaning. So as I watch my eldest son bleed out and the feeling of hopelessness settles in, I question my purpose for the first time in years. The sound of Neytiri's cries, the tears of my family. They're all drowned out by the sound of my own thundering heart beat. "No... no no no no NETEYAM!!" Neytiri shrieks "Oh my son... No Great Mother please!" I can do nothing but hold her in my arms. The feeling of being powerless, to protect the people you love is not one I'd wish even on my worst enemy. My ears tingle at the sound of dragging, and heavy breaths. "Dad!" Lo'ak calls for my attention from the left, causing me to look up and behind me to see a human girl pulling herself out of the water and onto the rock which we are grieving.

Neytiri immediately snaps out of her tears to hover protectively over Neteyams body. Hissing at the girl offensively, Lo'ak follows his mothers actions stepping to protect Tsireya. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!" spat my mate "You people have taken enough..." I can see the girl falter as she moves to stand up "I-I'm not here to hurt anyone... I swear." The girl responds in slightly broken Na'vi, she raises her hands to show that she is no threat. "I am escaping..." She breathes out "I do not wish to drown.'' The girl hesitantly gazes at a smaller boat meant for Tulkun hunting that is sinking. I watch as her gaze slowly shifts down to Neteyam's bleeding body on the ground, her expression is pained. She looked at Neytiri and I with sorrowful eyes. "I am sorr-'' she began to speak but was cut off.

"Wait- He's breathing!" She said in English. "Look! His chest is rising just slightly." She hurried over to Neteyams side to which Neytiri responded with a scowl "Don't touch him!" She smacked the girl's hand away when she tried to reach for his chest. "Neytiri!" I called out to her. I made a face, expressing that we should let her explain. "What do you mean he's breathing?" Spider questioned her, stepping closer to Lo'ak and Tsireya. "I need you to trust me, please." The girl spoke calmly and slowly, directly to Neytiri in Na'vi, who begrudgingly stepped back to let her close. With a thankful nod, she put her hands together and pressed them against Neteyams chest, pumping with all her strength.

"What is she doing?" Tsireya's wavering voice sounded, looking unsure at both me and Lo'ak. And then, it hit me. "She's doing CPR..." Or the old version of it anyways. I did remember hearing about it in training, that many years ago before we had machines to do it, humans would do CPR by hand. Where did she learn to do it manually? The girl began humming a tune, pumping Neteyams chest on every other beat. I saw her pause, making my eyebrows furrow. "Shit the mask is in the way." She muttered before taking a deep breath and surprisingly to everyone, tearing the oxygen mask off her face, throwing it to the side. I watched as it slipped into the unforgiving waves. We watched as she opened Neteyams mouth with her thumb on his chin and breathed life back into him. She continued for a few cycles of pumping and blowing before he coughed. A bit of blood splattered onto his lips, but this was good. It meant that he was alive, and that he was breathing.

The girl smiled, feeling accomplished as she wiped the built up sweat off her brow with her sleeve. "You need to get him some medical help right away." she turned and told me. I nodded and let Neytiri and Tsireya take Neteyam back to the village. With him on Neytiri's ikran and Tsireya following behind on an ilu. And then, as if I could never get a moments peace, a message comes through on my com. Quaritch... "Can you hear me, Corporal?.... Yeah. I think you can. I got your daughters." Fear immediately surges through me, Kiri and Tuk! They're with that man. "Where are your sisters?" I ask Lo'ak who had stayed behind. "Your sisters! Where are they!"

"They must still be on the ship." The girl interrupts, catching everyone's attention. "They're at the moon pool. It's on the ship come on I'll show you!" Spider speaks up "Come on!" he repeats before jumping into the water. Lo'ak follows after him. I look behind to take a look at the girl who is now lying on her back staring at the sky before following after them.
