Some Good, Some Bad

I wake up inside a dark, grungy cell somewhere, probably underground. I rub my eyes trying to adjust to the light, or lack thereof. The only light seems to be coming from the torches in the halls. The humidity down here is disgusting, my skin feeling sticky and hair is frizzy as can be. "What happened?" I groan out as I sit up, paining my injured shoulders which I notice have been bandaged.

"They caught you obviously." A voice answers from a dark corner in the cell. My ears instantly angle themselves towards the sound, hesitantly I turn my gaze to look at the person the voice belonged to. My eyes widened as I realized who it was. Tall and blue like the forest Na'vi, yet wearing camo style pants. I assume the bullet proof vest I last saw him in was taken from him. I can see him sharpening what looks like a rock with another rock while he sits on the floor.

"You're... the colonel..." I piece together at last. This is the man who took command of the SeaDragon, all to kill Jake Sully. He ordered for the tulkun to be hunted by the villages. He has committed atrocious crimes against the Na'vi. But... I thought Jake killed him, he's supposed to be dead!

"But how?" is all I could muster. I stand up now on the defensive. Why would they lock me up with such a dangerous man! I then realize that it's not likely these people care for my safety.

He just chuckles, "Well ain't that cute? You spend a few months out there in the sticks with them and suddenly you act like em too."

"Answer my question! How are you alive?" I ask again, a little louder this time. I have heard of what this man did to the forests in his human body. An absolute, despicable act. Destroying home tree, killing and breaking apart many families, all for the sake of some damned rock in the ground.

Quaritch continues to sharpen the edge of that stone in his hand while he talks. "The kid saved me. What did y'all call him? Spider?"

What? Spider helped this man? After all that he's done, Spider went back and kept him alive? I can hardly believe it. He's probably with the Sully family right now, acting as though he didn't save their mortal enemy, the person who almost killed Neteyam, who had done a number of hideous things just to hunt them down. And now he's sitting here, alive and maybe not well, unbeknownst to Jake and his family, who think it's all over. Spider and I spent a decent amount of time together on the ship, he was the first kid my age I'd ever met. He's also the first person I willingly told about my true identity. He's a good kid, I just can't fathom how he went from hating the colonel's guts to saving him from drowning. Quaritch sees my expression and shrugs.

"A load of good that did me. I ended up here anyway after being ambushed by these savages." he says. My face scrunches at the use of that vulgar word. How could he call the Na'vi savages as if he doesn't look like them now? I pulled my knees towards my chest and buried my head in them, starting to feel suffocated by the size of the room. As if Quaritch was not across the room, but right next to me. 'Please Eywa, let me out of here.' I silently plead. The older man seems to notice that I have no intention of holding a conversation with him and decides to speak up. "We're slaves here."

My ears prick up at his use of words. "What?" I say, looking up from my knees to look at him.

"What? You think they just wanna keep humans as pets? They make us work, they want us to mine out a section of the land to become usable for living on. Pretty damn smart if you ask me, why kill us off when they can make us work?" He aggressively shaves off a piece of rock at the last word of his sentence. I don't respond, the only sound in the cell is the sound of rock scraping against rock. It doesn't take long for the sound to get irritating so I ask.

"What are you even doing over there?"

He pauses his work to look at me like I asked the dumbest question he's ever heard. "I'm making a weapon. You expect me to bust outta here without one?"
