Chapter 4: Understanding magic

I had a restless sleep for most of the night. My mind kept wondering to new thoughts and feelings about this situation, how I was magical, how I would be participating in this wizard and demon war, and so on. But my mind wouldn't stop thinking about anything more then my fears. I was part of  the last stance against these demons, how these demons had been hunting and killing thousands of wizards. Grandpa explained how powerful this group of 6 demons and the nightmare followers was. As I continued to think, I realized how much pressure was on us to destroy these demons mostly. The 6 most powerful wizards sent to battle on behave of the Wizardkind vs a group of 6 demons and their followers, both with enough power to destroy this world.

I woke up the next morning in a cold sweat, a few minutes after I had become aware of the sound of honking coming from outside my window. I got out of bed with a blanket and walked towards my window, looking outside I saw morning yellows and pinks along with a faint flock of geese . "It's certainly amazing to wake up and see this view" I said softly as a smile grew across my face. I glanced at my watch, it was 6:25 and I was going to be late. I saw that I had slept in my clothing from yesterday. I went straight to the closet dropping my blanket at the window. I searched through the clothing and then decided to were some gray leggings and a sleeveless purple shirt. I put my long brown hair into a low ponytail. As I was about to leave my room, I heard a knock on the door. "Poppy you're late" said Asher with the tone irritated. I opened the door and saw Asher in shorts and a tight gray tee-shirt on. He stared at me for a few seconds then coughed, "Go get breakfast then meet me outside. You have 15 mins go, you better move."

I saw Asher leave down the stairs and continue until he was on the main floor where he put on some sneakers, opened the front door and left. I went to the kitchen and meet Erick eating at the wooden table. "Good morning Poppy!" said Erick between spoonfuls "Help yourself to some cereal and coffee!" I nodded and grabed a bowl from the cabinet, picked a cereal from another cabinet, and was handed a cup of coffee by Erick. "Thank you" I said with a shy smile. I sat down at the stool with my food when Riley came into the kitchen. "Good morning, Erick, Poppy" she said half yawning. Erick gave her a coffee as well. I ate my cereal and drank my coffee quickly remembering I had somewhere around 10 minutes left. I left the kitchen after putting my dishes in the sink. I went to the front door, opened it and saw Asher siting at the front steps waiting.

"Now that your finally here, we can begin" he said as he stood up. He grabbed my hand and drag me a little ways from the house. "Wait, what are we doing!?" I asked as we continue to move away from the house. "This is a precaution so that you don't destroy the house" he replied. Asher then stopped when we where towards the edge of the cloud and let my hand drop. "This is going to sound crazy but this is the first lesson jumping off the cloud" he said. I was in horror after he had said that. I saw him look at me and smile at my scared expression, "Come on you can trust me on this. After this lesson we can continue to our journey to the training grounds faster. At some point you will have to learn this. Just relax and follow." Asher then looked at me and fell back off the cloud. I watch in shock as he then flew above the clouds with huge beast like wings. He then lower himself in front of me and land on the cloud spreading his wings he said " My magic manipulates animals capabilities. Although really anybody's magic will adapt in extreme situations to help them even yours. Have faith and you'll be able to fly."

I stood there still comprehending what he had said, debating the crazy idea in mind of actually jumping off and trying to fly. But slowly and hesitantly, I went to the edge of the cloud. I stood there for what seem like forever, feeling a cool breeze coming from behind me as it blew hair into my face. "Any day now Poppy" said Asher. I gulped my heart was pounding and I looked back at Asher and fell. I had hair in my face blocking my vision as I was falling, but I heard Asher say "Believe Poppy!" I grabbed onto his words and felt a coldness flood my body again. Then I realized that I wasn't falling anymore, I looked to my left side and saw part of a wing flapping. It had purple and sliver color to it. I then flew towards the house at an alarming speed. "Help!" I yelled putting my hands in front of me. Asher flew towards me and caught me. My wings slowly disintegrate as wrapped his arms around my back. "Well done Poppy, you passed the first lesson" he said while holding me.
