Sel knew he shouldn't stare, especially because they weren't alone, but he couldn't help himself. The way she was moving, her heartbeat sped up to the sound of the music until they were nearly in sync. The way her hair moved like it had a life of its own. A crown of bouncing curls. Oh good God... her hips. That tight shirt. He had to look away. Before he started salivating.

They were at Volition. Lu and Mariah both left for a few days to check on some other passengers. Leaving William, Alice, Bree, and Sel to have the property to themselves. While Bree was tempted to stay in the guest house, she knew that every rule at Volition had a reason. They were all so grateful to have a safe haven to lay their heads. No one wanted to disrespect the ancestral spirits that were keeping them all protected. But Bree had admitted it could be lonely in the big house alone. Well, at least without the company of another living person.

Between the four of them, they had enough culinary expertise to keep themselves fed. Surprisingly Alice was the best cook out of them all. Her explanation was that "Women like to eat, so I like to cook." With that cheeky Onceborn smirk of hers.

They decided that first night to have dinner together, like usual. After dinner William had stumbled onto a rather large collection of vinyls and a record player. They'd all spent the last hours thumbing through the records and playing songs they all liked. It turned into a small party.

And that was before they broke out the bottle of whiskey.

Bree and Alice helped themselves to just enough to start feeling the buzz. William wasn't shy about throwing back a shot or two or four. Although, he knew that they all were relatively safe, Sel couldn't shake the responsibility he felt for all of them. Not to mention keeping his demon nature under wraps. He didn't need any liquid courage pushing him over the edge.

Everything was pretty tame until Bree found a Luther Vandross album titled "Never Too Much" and practically squealed in delight.

"Alice! Oh my God! Do you remember that one Valentine's Day we baked cupcakes for our fourth-grade class." Bree's eyes lit up with remembrance, while Alice smirked and nodded.

"Yes, I begged your mom to use your kitchen. My parents were always too anal to let me make a mess anywhere in the house." Alice rolled her eyes while Bree continued to examine the track list.

"Yeah, my Mom wasn't crazy about our mess either, but she could never say no to you." Bree shrugged. "We played this album like fifty times while we were baking. Got flour and frosting all jammed into the record player too." Bree's eyes turned distant, reliving the memory.

"Your Dad was so pissed! Made us clean out the whole garage that weekend." Alice smacked her forehead and groaned, having a mental relapse of her own.

"William, put this one on next!" Bree waved the large disk over her head. William danced over, his footsteps light. He was solidly drunk. No denying.

"Of course, my liege. Vandross...?" William mumbled like he was tasting each letter with the liquor he was sipping. "Hmm... sounds familiar. Not ringing any bells immediately. Sel ?" William tossed him a glance and he shook his head. Alice laughed.

"You two are so private school Caucasian it hurts." Alice jested sharing a look with Bree, who let a breathless chuckle pass her lips.

William shrugged and bowed "Ladies. We are your humble students." Their healer placed down his glass and gingerly positioned the disk onto the record player. Funky guitar strings blared through the speakers and Briana's reaction was immediate. Almost like she couldn't control herself. She started dancing and laughing like the rest of them weren't even in the room.

And Sel loved every second of it. A new side of his beloved king.

On the journey he'd seen her under constant pressure and paranoia. The three of them had escaped the Regents captivity, but their time there hadn't completely left them. They all had scars. Bree was no exception.
