The hustle and bustle of class can be heard as I sat with my iPad on the table. the table, chairs, whiteboard, projectors everything was almost perfect. the room was huge and could almost fit 100 people in it, maybe more. my eyes involuntarily moved to the guy sitting parallel to me, wearing a white shirt, with black trousers and a black coat. his hair was gelled back with just that perfect strand falling on the forehead. he had a Rolex on one hand, that would cost lakhs. he was perfect, or that is what he believed and maybe just maybe; he was right. cold grey eyes stared back at me intensely. his eyes moved to my white sweater as they glinted with mischief. I narrowed my eyes as he smirked. just then to his good luck, the professor came.
the room went silent as the thud of his shoes was the only voice that could be heard. " I sent some files yesterday of a case".
yeah no good morning, no have a nice day. but that is Mr. Malhotra for you. he was a man in his early thirties, Tall, well-built, extremely sharp and highly professional.
"Mr. Singh give me a brief of the case" the guy sitting in front of me gulped.
" sir.. the case w..was filed against a ma..n for clicking pictures of a w..woman illegally without her permission. the high court found him guilty but he was s..set free by the supreme court without any charges on him."
" illegal is not the word that was used there, Mr. Singh. Was it legal or not is not for you to decide" he looked back at the class as his eyes swept around
"ms. Khanna, why do you think that is? he was found guilty by the high court but not the supreme court, why?"
the girl at the back took a deep breath ready to answer and I knew what was coming.
" because our system is corrupt sir"
I smirked at her answer. That was expected coming from her. She wanted to change the world and wanted everyone to live peacefully, without wars, assaults, poverty, or corruption. too bad the world doesn't work that way, and it wasn't changing anytime soon.
Mr. Malhotra sighed as he observed the pen in his hand silently. without looking up he spoke " Ms. Gill?" I looked up from the table as I heard my name. I could feel multiple pairs of eyes looking at me, including his. the one I could differentiate among the millions.
"He wasn't guilty because he didn't click the picture directly from his phone or camera. he took a picture from someone else's phone and then clicked the picture of the other person"s phone. hence he never clicked the picture" Mr. Malhotra nodded his head and looked next to me
"Mr. Raichand, what do you think? was the guy guilty? should he be punished?"
" no sir, he didn't do anything wrong" Kabir Marchand spoke with confidence as if he owned everything and maybe, he does.
'yes, you can say that if your conscience is dead. " I spoke glaring at the guy sitting next to me as he looked at me with that glint in his eyes. I know what that means. I know more about him than he does. he was up for the challenge.
" that is a very politically incorrect statement ms gill, so you mean to say that everyone who gave these orders that day has a dead conscience" Kabir spoke with a smug look on his face.
"no Mr. Richard their conscience had nothing to do with the orders they gave. it was the law they were following." I spoke calmly looking at him waiting as I knew he wouldn't sit quietly. and I was right
" so what determines right or wrong Sahiba? if not consience?" oh boy not the name card
"Apparently, the law does Mr. Richard. or the guy would not be out there without receiving a punishment and we wouldn't be sitting here discussing him"
