Yeah, so it's been a superrr long time since the last real update and I'll apologize for that. I was dealing with school, recently graduated, then honestly lost some motivation. I'm back now though but am also in the middle of packing and making a major move. I'm happy people seem to be enjoying the story and promise to try and become a little more consistent. Will try and start next chapter the day this one is uploaded. 🫡

"He's stable now but I recommend he stays at the hospital for at least a day before we can release him. He went right to sleep on the medication but we'll need to run some tests, check for possible brain damage, concussions, things of that nature," The doctor at Gotham General explained. I sat by Kai's body on the hospital bed.

"Okay, thank you so much." I stood up to shake her hand but my body visibly trembled.

"Are you alright sir? You weren't in the car with him when he crashed, were you?"

"No ma'am, I'm just a lil' shaken up. Worried about the kid," I grabbed some paper and pen from a desk, "If anything happens or changes you can get me at this number." She took the paper a little hesitantly and definitely felt that something was up.

"Of course, but if you're planning on leaving now before I can at least check your vitals, I urge you to let me give you a prescription for some mild painkillers. But sir, you're obviously in need of real medical attention!"

" Well, if you insist... I'll take some morphine." She snorted.

"Nice try, if you don't need to stay, over-the-counter medication should get the job done, right?"

"Can't blame a guy for trying. That sounds great doc," She smiled and went to get the medicine but I immediately slipped out of the room, then the building. I always say if it's not the strong stuff there's no point in taking drugs, let the immune system get some real training in.

I was a little anxious about just leaving Kai but I was sure he would be alright, probably walking around by the end of the day. Besides, he was a lot safer in the hospital than with me anyway. I still needed to make a stop at the gun shop but honestly... I was a little banged up, definitely feeling those post-trauma symptoms. Even maneuvering into my car sent a sharp, but short-lasting, pain into my chest. I started the car and drove to the arms dealers on the Southside, following more traffic rules than I ever have and going right at the limit. Who the fuck actually does this shit? Boring as Hell.

JASON TODD POV

"You sure 'bout bringing that kid for the mission?" I asked,  "Last thing we need attached to a crime this big is more dead cops... kid seems a little trigger-happy."

"If F/n says he rolls with us, he rolls with us. He isn't a chump, Kai can hold his own." D responded.

"If anything I'm worried he'll go and try to hold too much." I reached over for another slice of pizza and began to eat.

"Ace and the gang'll keep him in line anything go wrong. Just relax alright? He won't be our problem anyway."

"Yeah, nothing's a problem. 'Til it is!"

"Jesus, Jason, enough! The kid goes, and you know what, he won't run off if shit gets tough neither!"

"Oh, c'mon, ya taking shots now? Thought we had all gotten over that shit."

"... Yeah, maybe everyone else. But me? I gotta hard time letting go of shit. My father's a descendant of the Demon Lord of Wrath, forgiveness isn't exactly baked in me." He explained.
