[And now for something new!]

This story comes to me from my brother Corum. He got it from our father who had recently been talking to an old friend at the WOMP (Watchful Order of Magesters and Protectors).

I should note that the names of the fellows involved are highly likely to be fake - considering that my brother is a watchman I should image they all gave false names when he interviewed them.

So for whatever it is worth, here is what I know about the protagonists in this story:

Ewiz the Great - a human male wizard. Recently joined the WOMP
Sir Buttskii the 42nd of his line - a gnomish bard
Sir Andrew Tate the 3rd of his line - a halfling rogue
Kayne West Junior the 3rd of his line - a human sorcerer
Goobus Junior the 2nd of his line - a rather fat human bard
Gilbert Man the 3rd of his line - a human monk
Walter the White - a half-elf druid

As I understand it then, young Ewiz was given the task of bringing together some adventurers to go up to the Kryptgarden Estate. For what reason I'm not sure, but there are plenty of things that need attending to, you can be sure. Goblins and undead in the forest, bandits on the road, thieves in the thorps and villages, you name it.

Ewiz went to the Singing Sword on the Market Square of Waterdeep as he had been instructed by his mentor, and set up one of the private rooms for interviews.
Over the course of the day, one by one, the other fellows mentioned came in and talked to Ewiz.

He was not very selective and took everyone that came in, signing them up to his adventure party that he had decided would be called 'The Habibi Club'.

It was all going wonderfully well until Walter the druid's animal companion, a dire rat, took a fancy to Ewiz's familiar who was also a rat, but of a more regular size.

If I'm getting this right, I understand the Walter's rat was female and decided she was not too keen on the advances of Ewiz's rat after all.
She scampered up into Walter's shoulder and scowled down at the other rat.

Now, in most tavern's in Waterdeep a rat is a rat is a rat. So Walter did what most people would do and gave the unfamiliar rat a boot up the arse.

It flew across the floor and whacked into the bar and lay there breathing out its last squeak.

Walter felt guilty and went over and cast Cure Minor wounds on the mortally wounded creature, just as Ewiz was coming out of the private room.

Angry words were exchanged and they came to blows. The rest of the tavern room erupted into chaos.

From what I gather, everything seemed to happen at once. Ewiz cast Magic Missile at Walter, hitting him in the chest but not knocking him down.

Tate, the halfling rogue, decided now was a good time to pick the pocket of one of the other tavern patrons, West the Sorcerer. He was noticed and West stood up and seeing that Magic Missiles were flying around the room blasted one at Tate.

The chaps were meant to be companions in adventure and already they were all fighting amongst themselves!

Goobus leapt up onto the table, but seemed unsure what to do when he was up there.

Gilbert the Monk, seeing the innkeeper leaving the bar holding a big club with nails in it, took a fancy to some of the strange bottles behind the counter and jumped over and drank the most tempting one.

As the other regular customers of the tavern ran for the door the only one not to get involved (so far!) was Buttskii the Gnome who remained at the bar drinking his small sweet sherry.
