the words on sapnap's monitor were blurred and illegible. he'd spent so long staring at the endless lines of code that he saw them all merging into one.
sapnap wasn't as advanced of a coder as his friends, so had to put in endlessly more effort than them. of course, either of his friends would help if he just asked, but he's been working on this particular code for almost a month now and he's desperate to get it right on his own.
originally he'd been listening to music to entertain himself whilst he worked, but he ended up switching it off when every song was just too loud and too quick and his head couldn't handle the audio stimulation alongside the strain on his eyes and the pressure of his thoughts. now, the only sounds occupying the space were the roll of his computer mouse, the quiet snoring of patches on his bed, and the occasional groan when sapnap would run the code and get the same damned error message.
he swears he's re-read every single character in the code hundreds of times now, and still found absolutely nothing. he knows it'll just be a misplaced space or an extra colon somewhere, and he knows that george would probably find it in mere moments, and he knows that he's making it worse for himself by trying to work in this mindset, but he's so close!
sapnap blinks a few times, trying to rid himself of the dry feeling that's clinging uncomfortably to his eyes.
the ravenette finds himself getting short-tempered, his patience running thin with the coding. he understands that he's overwhelming himself by trying to get it done, but he strives so longingly for the relief of it finally working that he's willing to push his own comfort aside for the time being.
he runs the code again, and the error message blinks tauntingly back.
he sighs exasperatedly, bringing a hand up through his hair, clasping on the ends and tugging weakly in some attempt to wake his brain up enough to just fight through the impending haze.
sapnap blinks again, lightly shaking his head as he widens his eyes, almost as if he's forcing himself to stay awake.
his bones feel like they're weighed onto his gaming chair, with sandbags tied onto each limb to pull him down. even the quite almost-purring sounds that patches is making are starting to get on his nerves.
it's like every fucking thing in the room is simultaneously trying to get on his nerves and send him off the edge into a full sensory overload. like, why is his stupid computer screen so ridiculously bright? who has ever needed this bright of a screen!?
he hangs his head back against the chair, groaning loudly in frustration.
the ravenette can feel the pit in the bottom of his stomach too, screaming insatiably for food, and he doesn't even know when he last ate- he doesn't even know what time it is, time having completely dripped into some unintelligible fountain of confusion and discomfort. he had cereal earlier, but he doesn't know when that even was, or how long it's been. the water on his desk has also been empty for hours now, and his throat feels dry and scratchy and his tongue feels weighted in his mouth, thick and uncomfortable and out of place.
two short knocks on his door have sapnap's head flying up again, and he looks over at his doorway with a silent sigh before calling out, "yeah?"
