The Eden Preserve is the only place in the world after humanity gets destroyed. It was created by scientists as a last ditch ever to save endangered species from going extinct. It is located in the center of North America somewhere. Although the world has recovered after the near extinction of humanity (as the humans nowadays live in small pocket areas in bunkers or in small communities) the animals that were preserved here in the Eden Preserve thrived here behind walls.
With only so many selected species, they were all at first living well within the preserve. It may've have a very large dome, but the preserve was big enough to hellp supply the aviafauna that inhabits that preserve.
But soon after humans disappeared, the facility was abandoned and many of the animals escaped while they could. Well except for most small ones as they'd refused to leave the safe haven that kept them alive.
All being rodents, anteaters, skunks, armadillos, rabbits, hares, pikas, opossums, snakes, lizards, turtles and many others who remain here. But with the northern weather getting colder, the remaining would-soon-to-be former inhabitants then would have to journey to another place to live where they'll feel safe again.
