I waited, lying awake with Chase cuddled up against my chest. My eyes were focused on the clock, but my ears were souly focused on the sounds made by movements going on downstairs. I was so paranoid, not even so much about myself as much as I was about Chase. You never know what'll happen around here.
Footsteps echoed against the walls as one of the two edged down the hall, and was about to get started up the hardwood stairs. My heart hummed, and I felt my palms begin to perspirate as I guided myself quietly out of the bed, replacing my body with a pillow in the delicate arms that'd been gripping me. I gazed at her as I stood up, watching her chest rise and fall. She looked so innocent as she slept, so helpless.
I snaked over to my bedroom door, roping my hand around the metal handle. I opened it slowly to avoid the common creaking noise that trailed along with most of the doors in the household. It was open about a foot wide before I slipped out, closing the door silently behind me as I entered the hallway.
I looked up, and was paralyzed in in surprise, my hand flinging up to my chest. Kye stood in front of me, only inches away. His face was plastered in a knowing frown.
"The girl, Justin," He said through gritted teeth. I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Chase," I corrected, in almost sort of a growl. "Chase is sleeping up here, alright? So what's the problem?"
"I swear to fucking God, Justin," He inched closer, his index finger stabbing my bare chest. "I will not hesitate to slit both of your throats, and cut you apart limb by limb,"
I smirked, shaking my head. "You're pathetic."
Rage was noticeably pounding through Kye's bloodsteam. His hand snapped up to my neck, but I reacted quickly enough to swat it away and shove him backward, stumbling to catch his balence.
"You better cut this stupid act, you stupid fuck, or you're going to regret it. Wouldn't want your little girlfriend seeing what a freak you really are, would you?" He smirked menacingly, his dull eyes shifting up to look at mine.
I felt my blood pound faster, and my body began shaking with brut fury. Words weren't enough to explain how much I wanted to kill him right then, so brutally and so painfully. "Neither do you, dumbass,"
He stood taller. "If that's what it takes to destroy you, then I'm willing,"
"So that's what it's come to, huh?" I tasted a metallic taste in my mouth, and almost gagged as I choked out what I needed to say. "You can't stand the fact I have a friend finally so much, you want to destroy me?"
"You're letting her fucking take your life and you're so love stuck you don't even realize it! You aren't just friends with her, Justin, you're in love with her."
I'd contained myself from pouncing on him all the way up to that point. Once he's muttered that... word... it was almost as if the world stopped spinning, everything stopped moving, and not another noise could be heard.
Love.
That's always been Kye's biggest fear, if not his only fear. He didn't care about the girl, he didn't care that I was finally socializing. He fell in a love that screwed him up, and now the only thing that he's ever concerned about is making sure that it never happens again.
Once I snapped back into conciousness, I looked up at him. Dillon was now beside him, conversing about what I'd been doing. At this point, I was all out of shits to give.
"I'm 16, Kye. I can make my own decisions. And right now, I think I'm gonna have to say I have enough heart to look after her."
"Fine, have it that way then. But if she's going to be with you, she's going to know who you really are. Mark my words." He threatened, and he pushed past me to get to his bedroom.
I looked up at Dillon, expecting puppy dog eyes and an awaiting hug, but instead, Dillion was just flat out cold. His eyes were giving of a cold vibration, almost one that could give you goosebumps, He looked down at his feet as he scooted past me as well, not one word spoken. It was a hundred times more painful to get that reaction from Dillon, someone who was so close he could be a brother than Kye. But like most emotions I felt, I was just going to have to shake it away.
I sighed before I wrapped my hand around the metal doorknob yet again, closing my eyes as I began to enter the room. I realized the door was locked as I shook it violently, swearing to myself as I dug around in my pocket for the key. It took a minute to search myself, until I finally came to the realization that it was hanging around my neck. I plugged it into the key hole in the doorknob, and twisted it until I couldn't pushing open the door. I noticed it was slightly colder than before, but I figured it was just because of the mood floating in the atmosphere. But at a closer glance, I noticed the window was open.
A shock of painful realization flooded through my brain. My head snapped in the direction of the bed, and the covers were unfolded, an open notebook lying near the pillow, neat handwriting scrawled across the page.
I ran over to it, and read it over quickly and carefully.

I almost puked up all of my organs. This is a joke, right? She was going to pop out from a corner any minute now, and scream "APRIL FOOLS" and hug me and kiss me and we would ride a white horse off into the sunset.
The only problem was that it wasn't April Fool's Day, neither of us had a white horse, and this wasn't a joke. I fell to my knees at the window, looking out into the distance. She jumped into the bush to get down from these two stories, but how'd she get out of there unharmed? It was a rose bush, she was bound to have gotten cut up.
I ducked my head out the window, searching around for any last sign of her. I noticed my screen lying on the ground below me, next to a bush of roses. Then I realized something... Holy shit, oh God. That wasn't a rose bush, those were on the other side of the house. Kye had intentionally planted a different type of plant on my side of the house, so that I wouldn't try to escape.
That was Lily of the Valley.
I was going to have to find a way out of here... if I couldn't, Chase could die before she even realized what was happening to her.
