While cradling Chase in my arms, I edged my way through the thickest of the woods there was, until we finally approached the small clearing that I had been waiting for. There was a small fire pit in the center of a few large rocks that'd been used as seats.
"That took long enough," An edgy voice rasped in my direction, footsteps becoming louder as they came nearer.
"Not my fault, jackass. You weren't the one who had to carry a 100 pound girl through a thick cut of woods. And not to mention you're... let me think... the fucking alpha?" I immediatly regretted my choice of words at the sound of him gritting his teeth.
"You and Justin... You're both worthless hounds. You think you're bigger than you are and it's sickening. You're just mutts and that's all you'll ever be." I had a mini heart attack as I looked down at Chase, sighing in relief at her unconciousness. That'd be ashame for her to hear all that.
"Who are you anymore?" I looked up at him, my eyes like shooting darts against his.
"I'm your protector, you're just kids. Trust me that I know what's right, and hand the girl over to me." Kye was obviously refraining himself from showing his iritability, holding his arms out for me to lay her in. "Put the poor thing out of it's misery."
I instinctively pulled her out of reach. "You're going to kill her? That's not what you said, you lied to me!" I'd never been more disgusted in my life. "We can fix her and you know it. Fess up to the real reason, you're afraid of falling in love with her yourself? Beating her up like you did Clove?"
His hands clenched into the fists and his face turning a shade of crimson. "What the fuck makes you think that you're better than me, you mutt? You act like you're stronger than me, and your body might be strong but your mind is weak Dillon. Weak!" He spit his words at me, expecting me to step back. I stood my stance.
Before I knew it, my skin was glowing and so was Kye's. This problem was far out of the context it used to be. Chase wasn't the concern anymore... It was a battle of creatures beyond a girl.
I coudn't will myself to let her down, so I tensed my arms as I shifted into the beast I was. She wouldn't be safe there much longer, so I had to protect her while I could... after she was put down, I hoped she wouldn't be the focus anymore.
While I seemed to be perpetually blinded, something came by and swiped Chase right out of my arms. Rage exploded inside of me at the thought of the gruesome murder that Kye would bring her, but then I heard the soft spoken voice of a 16 year old boy who was hopelessly in love with her.
I opened my eyes to Kye nearly rammed into me, his claws sprawled out. My God, he was going to kill her.
"You both are selfish bastards to bring the girl into this." He growled, looking down to see her closed eyes, her chest rising peacefully up and down. He cradled her in one arm as one of his thumbs trailed across her cheek, wiping a clear trail in her makeup of dirt. What have they done to you....
"LOOK AT YOURSELF, you numbminded PRICK!" Kye screamed at him, hedging towards him. "You're a monster just like both of us. You think that just because you're soft on the inside makes you the same on the outside? It doesn't even matter how soft you are Justin, because people will always look at you for what they see. And that will always be this beast." His voice reasoned with Justin as he looked down at himself, looking up at both of us with shaking brown eyes.
His hand wavered over Chase's limp body, life subsiding in her once more. The purple substance that filled her blood was withdrawed, and it splashed on the ground as Justin put all his might into healing her. Kye's filthy glare returned to me, and rage built up in me once again.
"Who even cares about Justin and... Chase... we've got some unfinished buisness to take care of."
Unsteadily, I shook my head yes. This is it, it would show who is the strongest. And if by any chance I would become alpha... this is my moment to take the stand.
Kye and I both took our stances, and after a second is became apparent that he was waiting for me to take the first move.
I took one weary step forward...
