Endure and Survive - Pt 1.

Spoilers for episode 5 - Ellie Williams

                              "Woah" Ellie says, as you trek through the tunnels of Kansas. Paintings of flowers and rainbows covering the mildewed ridden hallway. The air was stale and smelled like dust, but the group continues to walk, coming up to a door with a painting of a castle surrounding it. Sam looked towards Henry, gesturing to the door. Henry nodded his head and Sam continued to approach the castle before him. They must have gone this way before, seeming not at all anxious to go through.

                             Joel turns around to see the small child make his way to the door, "No." he says as he lays a hand on his shoulder. Turning back towards the paint clad door, Joel slowly made his way, pulling out his flashlight and hesitantly opening the door. Through the small opening he had made, he shone his light to make sure there were no spores or infected lying behind the walls. 

                          You look at Ellie, the two of you close together.  Joel and Tess had decided to bring you along on their expedition of smuggling the infected girl. You two slowly becoming closer with each second, before you met her, you only had Joel, Tess, Bill and Frank and considering 1/4 was still present; it was nice to become friends with someone new. You thought she was weird, constantly talking and telling jokes. The way her eyebrows rose and furrowed with each emotion. You were practically infatuated with her, she was your best friend. You opened your mouth to say something but was interrupted by Joel making his way into the new room.

                         Sunlight shone through the ceiling, small tables adorned with cups and toys and the past of human life. The room was fairly lit, not gaining much from the lack of windows, there was no doubt that it would be pitch black when night fell. But the bright paintings on the wall would surely add some light.

                         Ellies mouth was dropped open, eyebrows rose and eyes wide as she took in what she saw. A classroom. It was odd to say the least, a classroom under ground. 

                         "I heard about places like this. People went underground after Outbreak Day. Built settlements." Joel said while looking around the room.

                        "What happened to them?"

                        "Maybe they didn't follow the rules and they all got infected."

                        "Well, this wasn't on my bucket list." You piped up, listening between Joel and Ellie. Looking towards the way the ladder decided to walk, you followed closely behind, stopping short when she stopped at a small table. The table was small, for children younger than her. It had papers and toy cars strewn across it.

                       Ellie pushed one of the toy cars off the table, chuckling lightly as Sam sat on a chair. She liked him, giving protective pats and arms around the shoulder. Maybe it was the lack of genuine connection with other children or maybe she knew how scared he was. Sam and Ellie went back and forth in conversation, something about a comic book she had begged you to read. You sat across the table from them, watching as Ellies eyes brightened which each word she said and acted out.

                       You thought she was adorable, the way her face brightened and how she cared for this child she barely knew. You sat there in peace, looking around the room while you listened to every possible sound. "Fuck Yeah, Man!" Ellie exclaimed, high fiving Sam loudly.

                      "Hey, keep it down. We're not out yet."

                       "Ah, c'mon. Can we just rest here for a while. There's, like, actually shit to do here."

                      "Wouldn't be so bad to wait the light out a bit. Safer in shadows when we pop back on the other side" Henry said. All of us looking at Joel with anticipation. He said nothing but turned around and wandered off near by.

                       You found yourself settling down on a chair, one that made small sounds from movement, diving into your backpack and pulling out a thick novel. The sounds of Henry and Joel speaking softly and Sam and Ellie rattling a soccer ball around. You were content with the small amounts of noise, and began reading your book.
