The cold night enveloped the room that you occupied. Sending small shivers up the back of your spine, making you relish in the thought of a warm summers day. Your room was dark, leaving a single candle light to light up the walls.
With the cold seeping in, you found yourself bundled up into a blanket. Letting your body relax against the headboard of your bed. Soft tunes hummed from your lips as your fingers fumbled with the pages of a book.
'The Stars My Destination' the cover read, finding it on a small bookshelf hidden away in the depths of undiscovered house. It was a good read, you had to admit. The futuristic and revenge tendencies fed into any fantasy thought you'd ever had.
As your eyes scanned the page, your fingers turned them. Creating a new image in your mind.
The magic of imagination
Soft footsteps echoed through the hall, signifying Ellie was home. She had gone on a run in the early morning. Not uttering a word to the girl before she left due to the sleep that clouded your mind.
Ears following the footsteps, they led down the path towards the bathroom. Bringing silence into the house once a door opened and shut. Ellie was never one to shower every night, on occasion she would fall straight into bed. Letting her stink and dirt crowd the bedsheets she used.
The sound of water made your ears quirk. The soft noise of it pelting onto the floor, followed by the loud noise of the outdated pipes. As you listened, your eyes still scanned and your fingers still turned. Giving you background noise to a rather unrelenting silence.
You didn't know how much time passed, being engrossed into the small chapter book. The door opened to your room, allowing a peek of light to seep through. Lifting your head up, a soft voice sounded, "Hey." Ellie smiled.
Eyes meeting Ellies, "Hey. How was your day?" You asked her.
She continued to move her body through the door, shutting it lightly behind her as she made her way towards your bed.
"It was good, all clear." She replied, letting the hoarseness of her throat come out in a rough tone.
More often than not, she would come straight to your house after a long day. Using the big lavish bathroom instead of her small one. Using it as an excuse to get into bed with you, to sink into the duvet as her arms wrapped around you.
You smiled in response to her answer, gently grabbing the edge of your blankets and pulling it back. Giving her entryway to step into the bed.
As she made her way closer, she quickly jumped in. Getting away from the cold and letting the warmth and body heat engulf her. She laid on her back, head on a flat pillow as your arm wrapped itself around her shoulders. Book still in hand, you flipped through the pages.
A soft slap to the pages caused the book to tumble from your hands. "Come lay." The owner of the hand said.
Picking up the small book and closing it gently, you set it on the bedside table. Turning around from your position and towards the girl. Her back was turned towards you, allowing your arms to wrap around her waist and pull her in.
The soft smell of fresh pine reached your nose. Letting the comfortable smell send you to ease. Your hand found its way up into her short hair, running your fingers nimbly through it. Keeping the same speed and touch as you combed through her dry hair.
She must not have washed it. You thought as you continued with the action.
A small smile found its way onto Ellies face, her eyes closed as she felt the soft touch of your hands. Not one word being uttered between you two, the soft silence brought comfort.
Your eyebrows furrowed together, creating a crease in between. "Why is your hair so soft?"
