"As long as we stick together, we'll be fine. I know the forest like the back of my hand," Cosette said from behind me. "Only because I live here."
Looking at the endless sea of green, I scoffed. Everything that currently surrounded us looked exactly the same. All smelled the same too. The words that came from Cosette didn't give me any form of comfort. Honestly, it just made me question her judgement more than I already do. "Keep the lies coming."
Cosette was a woodland faerie. We've known eachother for quite some time now and anything she says...you can't really take her word on it. For a woodland Faerie she forgets things a lot but, with the help of me, i keep everything she says, thats important at least, written down.

When we first met, I was looking for plants in the woods, things that i can use in desperate times. As a siren, I have to constantly stay hydrated so, the vast plants will help with my drying skin. The searching made me extremely tired and in desperate need for water, but as i went to drink from my little bottle....it was empty. Surely, i had another one. Wrong. That was my last botte.
Looking around, there were no lakes, no houses, no one that can help me. I accepted that I wouldn't be able to make my mother proud. So i lie there, dying of thirst.
When my vision was blurring and my mind was going blank, a figure jumped from above. It poked at me until soon, I felt something go down my throat. Water. As I drank it, my vision came back to me until I can finally make out who was in front of me.
She had short black hair and bright hazel eyes that stared at me wildly. Behind her, green and black patterned wings fluttered back and fourth. Her pointy ears also moving just slightly with each noise the forest was making. When i got up, she gave me a big toothy grin and introduced herself, "Cosette. Woodland Faerie at your service."

Now that I look back at it, she saved my life. If it weren't for her, I'd be decomposing right by her house. "Hey, you wanna stop for a bit. Have a little snack? You're looking a little......parched." Cosette giggled as she took out a little bottle of water and mushrooms. She sat down and set her bag beside her. I sat down too, opening my water and chugging half of it down.
"Are you sure you know where you're going....Everything looks exactly the same." I set the bottle down and looked at her. She had started a fire and were cooking the mushrooms she had pulled from her bag. Then she looked at me and stared blankly, "Do you know who you're talking to? I'm a woodland Faerie, of course I know where we are going. It's all based on the direction of the wind and trees. Also, you may not see it, but the leaves patterns change with every mile we travel. Thats how i know where we are going."
She continued stirring the mushrooms before taking out two small platters and handing one to me. She scooped up a couple mushrooms and placed it on our platters. "Now eat up and we can continue......where did you say we were going again?"
"Don't tell me you've been leading me somewhere you don't even know..Cosette...."
"No! I know! I knew.....I KNOW but I....just forgot...just now?"
I sighed as I looked at her and shook my head. Exactly why sometimes I feel like I can't trust her, but i know, she means well. From my pouch, I pulled out my map and showed her, "We are somewhere around here, in Agromia and I want to get here, Ebhearia."
I back up and continued eating the mushrooms. Sometimes, I still wonder what made me say that she can tag along. "So," she spoke in between bites, "Why do you need to go to Ebhearia for? Isn't that place a little...dangerous?"
"When I was younger, my mother always talked about that place. She talked about seeing so many wonderous animals and people, but there was always one object that stood out to her. The last Ethiopian Opal. It was always heavily guarded. One day she tried taking it but failed, they sent her here in Agromia. Now, I want to get it. And you wanna know why...its heavily guarded?" Cosette leaned in, taking an anticipating bite from her mushroom, chewing it slowly. "Because it posses very strong magic, depending on who or what you are, the possibilities are endless."
"And you wanna get it with just us two? you're gonna need a lot more people than that y'know. Plate." I handed my plate to her and stuffed the map back into my pouch. Now that i really think about it, she's right. This is not a two person job, and with the little bit of skills we both have, its gonna make the job much more difficult.
"Alright. Then we'll find more people on our way. Ones that posses more skills than we do. By then we'll be able to-" My sentence was cut short by a loud banging sound in the distance. Suddenly, a tree came flying our way and a scream followed. "I think we found our next contender."
