His ice-blue eyes are cold and calculating. I feel like he's staring right into the depths of my soul. Refusing to show weakness, I hold his gaze, but Tamisra is going crazy in my head.

'Let me out, let me out! I need to see,' she says while pushing her way forward to share my sight.

I'm too shocked to shove her back; she never acts like this. Her dark blue eyes must be swirling into my green because I see his ice blue eyes start to bleed brown, showing his wolf must have also come forward. I'm frozen as I take him in.

He's all Alpha male, he has chestnut brown hair pulled into a man bun, and the scruff on his face is the same color. His jawline is so sharp it could slice through glass, and yeah I wouldn't mind sitting on those perfect plump lips. His muscles are clearly straining against his black shirt and I do my best not to stare too hard at those delicious arms

I feel my cheeks turn pink because of my dirty thoughts, and Tamisra sending me...interesting images of him isn't helping, either. And Goddess above, he smells fucking divine, like lavender and bamboo. I want to shove my nose into his neck and just inhale it forever.

I'm snapped out of my trance when my brother clears his throat. Jesus! How long was I staring at him? He's probably used to it, given that he's sex on legs, but still.

"Take a seat," he says in a deep cold voice. He looks at a file on his desk, which I presume is mine. "Your brother briefed me on your situation. I was happy to take you in because your brother has proven to be an asset to this pack as well as my close friend, but that won't save you if you cross me. My pack is hated for good reason, and the allies have had their eyes on attacking me for quite some time. You understand you will need to denounce the Red Moon Pack before I can permit you to stay in my packhouse, yes?" he says, his face is void of all emotion; I swallow, trying to hide my nervousness before responding.

"Yes, Alpha, I understand; thank you for your kindness. I hope I can prove myself useful to your pack," I say, keeping my tone serious.

"I see. Do you have any skills, any training? We always need warriors."

"I was the beta female in my previous pack, so I was one of the few women permitted to learn basic self-defense. However, the women in my pack never saw battle, and we were not provided any training on a regular basis. I hope to be allowed to train here. My mother was the head warrior of her previous pack before she was mated to my father, and my father was the head warrior of this pack. I feel that I could be useful to you with proper training."

"Minimal training, what a waste. Alpha Gunther is living in the dark ages," he says with a scoff, and I feel my heart stop; please don't throw me out!

"You can have two days to acclimate, and then I want you on the field. I expect you to carry your weight; this is not a free ride. Why did you leave the pack if you were a beta female?" he says coldly.

I let out the breath I was holding when he made it clear he wasn't denying my asylum.

"Yes, Alpha, I understand," I say, deciding I better just tell the truth so he doesn't deem me untrustworthy. "The man I thought was my mate had forced a mating bond, I presume with a spirit witch; I realized he was not my fated when I caught him being unfaithful, and I felt no pain of a betrayed bond."

"I see. In this case, he was the one who committed the crime. Why not report him instead of leaving the pack you were raised in?"

"Well, partly because of my own pride, but also because there was no way to prove my accusations. I have no ties to that pack; my parents are dead, and my brother, my only living blood, resides here. Although it may seem cowardly to leave a pack where I was a ranked member, I never should have been a ranked member because the Beta was not my true mate."

He nods in understanding before standing up and walking to the other side of the desk where I sit. God, he's tall. If I wanted to blow him, I would barely need to bend my knees.

No. Goddessdammit, Amara, stop that! Stupid brain, stupid wolf.

"Fair enough. Stand up, we will do the ritual to make you a pack member, and then I presume you'll want to spend the day recovering from your journey."

"Yes, Alpha," I say, standing up. I barely reach his shoulders. I wasn't exactly tall by werewolf standards, but this guy was a fucking giant. A very sexy giant. Ok, I need to shut up.

He takes out his claw, making a slice in both our palms.

"Repeat after me, I, Amara Alayna Dawson, denounce my loyalty to Red Moon Pack and reject my position as Beta female. I hereby pledge my loyalty to Ivory Moon Pack."

I repeat what he says while he grabs my hand. I momentarily feet a searing pain as my link to Red Moon breaks, but it was replaced by my new link with Ivory Moon. I let my hand linger in his momentarily, loving his warmth. When I pull away, I feel a little dizzy but relieved to finally be free of my nightmare and hopefully move on from this.

"Damn, I thought you were pale before; I didn't know this level of white existed. You put Caspar to shame," my brother says, laughing at me, and I shoot daggers at him.

"You're excused. Come see me on Tuesday morning for your training schedule. Take her to the third floor, Seth. Third door on the right from the elevator," the Alpha says

My brother looks confused, "the third floor, Alpha?" he says, clearly bewildered. Over what, I don't know

"You heard me," he says.

My brother simply bows his head and leads me out of the room. He leads me to an elevator, selecting the third floor and wrinkling his brows.

"The Alpha never puts any new pack members on the third floor. You're only three rooms down from his." my brother said, still clearly confused.

"Well, he must be taking this whole offering protection thing seriously then. That or he wants to keep an eye on me," I shrug, thinking nothing of it.

When he brings me to my room, I raise an eyebrow when I see it. It's luxurious, to say the least. A king bed sits against a large window facing the packhouse garden, and a seventy-five-inch flatscreen faces the bed. There's a walk-in closet big enough to be another room and another door which I presume is the bathroom. The carpet is black, looking like it would feel like a cloud on my feet, and the walls are painted gray. I turn to look at my brother

"You see why I'm confused?" he says

"Yeah, no shit," I say, walking in and setting Nisha down.

The first thing I do is open the bathroom door, and I practically jump in excitement when I see the massive shower with a clawfoot tub right next to it. Yep, I'm gonna like it here. All I need is a nice shower and bath, and I'm satisfied.

"I'll bring up a litter box. You can use my card to order some things for you and your cat until you start getting paid." my brother says.

My eyes prick with tears; he doesn't need to do that. He's already given me more than enough.

"Thank you..." I say. He comes up and gives me a hug

"I'll drop off the litter box; I presume you'll be in the shower?" He says, laughing. Yeah, we may have gotten into a couple fights over me using all the hot water, forcing him to take a cold shower when we still lived together. What can I say? I like my damn showers.

"Yeah, I will be. Just drop it off, and don't worry about anything else. I'll be fine. I'm just gonna get some rest after I shower."

"Some things never change, huh? I can bring up some food for you too if you're hungry."

"No, I'll be fine. I'll come to annoy you whenever I wake up."

"Ok, well, link me if you need anything," he says before walking out and closing my door. I immediately strip naked and head for the showers. I might just decide to sleep in there.
