"So...you gonna explain what that was?" I ask Amara as we land in our room
"Well, it seems as though I taught myself how to use my mind reading trick" she says, shaking her head as if she wanted to shake whatever she saw out of her head. Couldn't say I blamed her, I wouldn't want to see what went on in that thing's head
"What did you see?"
"A bunch of flashes of things that didn't make sense, but they have five thousand vampires left, they started off with ten thousand but it seems they lost half of them actually finding me, and they undershot their attack here, sending less of them than they had been sending to the other packs. I still don't know what our numbers are like" she says, she sounds a little shaken.
"Not five thousand. Half that, maybe a little more" I say and she nods, honestly the numbers were the least of my concern at this point. I needed to know what their actual plans were, numbers alone don't win you a war. Surely it helps, but it's all strategy.
"Aylin will send warriors" I say and she nods again.
I can feel that she's off, I have a feeling of what it was about, but I don't bring it up. I felt her disgust, horror, and fury when she took control of Horace's mind the first time. And based on what came out of his mouth I can put two and two together. And, I don't want to know the details. With Aylin being my rightful Queen it's in my DNA to be protective over her, and that's aside from the fact that my mate is already attached to her.
Not knowing what else to do, I take her hand and lead her to bed. She doesn't put up a fight when I lay down and pull her to me. I can't really sleep, but I can at least wait here with her until she falls asleep. But I have to check in with Seth and Aston about the other prisoner, check in with the wounded, with the families of the dead...but. I could stay here with her for a couple minutes until she falls asleep.
She had a long day, so a couple minutes is indeed all it takes before she's snoring lightly. I unfold her from me and she grumbles a little bit before she turns over and grabs her cat, pulling him to her chest.
'Any update?' I mindlink Seth
'A little info, not a whole lot. Taking a piss break now if you want to meet me back in his cell' he says
'Will do.'
Just wanting to get shit done and get back in bed with my mate, I portal right outside his cell, where Aston is sitting and damn near falls on his ass from how high he jumped.
''Goddammit! That is going to take SO LONG to get used to" he growls
I forgot how useful portaling was. Actually, I forgot how useful magic was in general. In just a week of being in the underworld I catch myself using it more and more. I would have to come clean to the pack. I know I have some explaining to do anyways, given that Amara didn't exactly hide any magic she used, so when we tell them what she is, I'll tell them what I am.
I didn't expect her to hide her magic, nor would I have asked her to if I had expected it, not when she's embracing this part of her. As for the Queen, she had no reason to hide anything from my pack, and they are quite clearly related, so I probably should have just told them when I introduced Amara as their Luna.
"Oh get used to it, I missed this part of magic" I say back to Aston, pushing my rambling thoughts away.
"I don't know why you don't just tell the pack, people didn't even care that Amara is a demon, actually most thought her and her sister's little show off during the battle was pretty badass." he says, does this fucker have mind reading abilities too?
"I'm going to tell them, I'm more worried about them wondering why I didn't tell anyone for so long"
"Just tell them the truth, you don't need to sugarcoat it. They'll understand. And just think of our enemies, no one will want to fuck with you, I mean they already don't but especially knowing you have the demon army behind you and powers at your disposal?" he says, throwing his hands up
"Yeah yeah I've already thought about all that. I'll tell them when I feel like it. Anyways, give me updates I'm tired and I have shit to do" I growl
"He won't say anything about their numbers, but they'll attack within the next two weeks. That was the plan if they found her but didn't capture her. He said they'll use every last warrior and the king wouldn't stop until he had her. I still don't fully understand what they want her for, and we haven't beaten it out of him yet." Seth says, butting into the conversation
"Amara got numbers out of the other one we kept alive, they have five thousand soldiers left. I'm not worried about numbers, with her sister's army, we'll be just fine. I'm more worried that there's no way they don't have something else up their sleeve, they can't seriously rely on just their armies to get her. One warrior can take on 3 vampires easily." I say, scrubbing a hand down my face "keep working him. If you need a break, swap out with Max, or leave him sit for the night, just leave a guard with him" I say, portaling out of there to my office to find my report sheets of the dead and injured.
Fuck. There's something I'm missing, something we don't know. I know it in my gut.
