The ashes had finally settled.
Sam Wilson finally became Captain America, Spider-Man had disappeared off the grid, Wanda Maximoff was missing, Steve Rogers was nowhere to be found, and Clint Barton had retired.
That was the simple truth that Maria Hill had come to peace with, it was...wrong though, very wrong, lots of things were missing. People were changed in a few seconds after she left. The world was a different scary place.
But not much scared her anymore.
"The Avengers are gone, Fury," She said calmly, Fury had insisted to come to meet him. He'd been so happy to leave her calls go to voicemail, but now...he suddenly needed to talk to her. "They're dead, they died with Tony Stark. And he's not coming bac-"
"What happened to T.A.H.I.T.I again?" He looked up wistfully, shaking his head dramatically.
"Gone, from what I know."
Fury responded by cursing darkly and muttering about Carol Danvers. Maria sighed, he...didn't want to let go, he refused flatly to acknowledge that they were gone.
The woman clenched and unclenched her fists, glaring a hole into the bar's wooden surface. "They're gone Fury, and god, they're not coming back." She snapped, her patience long gone. Fury shot her a warning glare.
She glared back, and after a few moments, he sighed again, absently tracing a circle on the bar table. "The world still needs the Avengers." He decided, Maria wasn't sure what had changed from the last time he insisted on reassembling the Avengers.
"Maybe," She admitted tiredly, wondering how much they'd be spinning in circles. "But we don't have a backup disk for the Avengers."
Fury froze.
Very obviously. The level nine stared at the ex-S.H.I.E.L.D director. He slowly started moving again, straightening slightly and turning to look Maria in the eye.
"What if...we did."
GRACE This doesn't count as the first chapter...but I had to make Fury ramble on about the Avengers like a kid who doesn't want to let go. It's kinda for setup, so that's why it's so short (it's a prologue, so it's supposed to be short) and the actual chapter is probably coming soon, next update is Monday 27, I'll be posting the update dates on every chapter, and I hope you enjoy them!
