SOMETIMES, NICK WAS TEMPTED TO JUST SNATCH KEEFE'S HAND TO SHUT HIM UP. But alas, it was impossible, since Keefe was holding Brooklyn's hand with a grip of steel, and Nick had no wish to put Brooklyn through any pain.
"Can we go out yet?" Keefe asked the HYDRA agent, who glared at him. "Of course not, you guys are like Bobby eating snacks at midnight: determined to do natural things, like pour milk before you put the cereals." The young mutant shuddered at the thought, and the agent seemed more bored than ever.
"This is boring." Keefe continued, undettered by the fact that only a few hours ago someone was pointing a gun at his head, threatening to blow his brains out. "Like ma-"
The agent's taser baton sparked up in Keefe's face, effectively silencing him.
"Or maybe you could shut up," Nick suggested sarcastically. "It would kill you wouldn't it?"
Keefe nodded, glad that someone finally understood his hyperverbal struggles. Brooklyn meanwhile, was staring at the agent as if trying to achieve enlightenment.
Nick instead sighed, closing his eyes.
If only anyone listened to him when he said how risky this plan was, and how stupid it was to let a pair of crazed teenagers run off, especially when one of them is obsessed with geeking out and the other one was fangirling over every spy or S.H.I.E.L.D agent.
"Your hair is in my face again," Nick snapped, Brooklyn jumped back, and Keefe snickered demonically. As lovely as Brooklyn's hair was, and whatever on earth it smelled like, Nick didn't need it hanging over him while he attempted to escape.
Keefe sighed dramatically, leaning onto the bars of the cage. "If you're keeping us here, at least call the others, it's not fair. Or give us a D&D set. I'm bored-"
"What the hell are you doing here?" A woman's voice demanded, Keefe yelped, falling over, Brooklyn squeaked, and Nick resisted the urge to punch something. Especially Mist for getting them in the trouble.
"Hanging out, you wanna join us Miss Carte- No, we're kidnapped!" Keefe waved his hands like an insane, vibrating, monkey who wanted food and attention.
Nick wished he could have been in the woman's mind right then, Shaorn Carter's face passed from confused by their presence, to apprehensive, to horrified, and then to fake neutrality as she glared at the HYDRA agent.
"Let them go," She said with a look that said a thousand words to Nick, she was worried that it might seem she worked with whatever was left of HYDRA, and she was worried that S.H.I.E.L.D would have found out, she was worried that her best friend might kill her, she was worried that someone might find out the truth, and she was worried that they wouldn't believe a story she'd make up. "Sorry," She said in an apologetic tone "There were a few people who I had to catch and this idiot seemed to think you were them."
"Who? Daniel Radenclifr, Keefe Sencen, and Avi Lake?" Keefe demanded, but Brooklyn (as nice and sensible as always) stepped (stomped) on his foot, causing Keefe to howl in betrayal. Sharon seemed satisfied that Keefe had bought the story, and that he was dumb enough to not question it.
