It was dark and the road was quiet as he waited for the car. Eventually, it drove by and he started up his motorcycle. Quickly catching up to the car, he punctured the tire with a knife, causing the car to spin out and crash. The engine was on fire as he got off his bike and walked over and opened the trunk. He found the briefcase and opened it, revealing the five blue IV bags. An older man opened his door and pulled himself out. He was covered in blood and muttering something. The woman in the passenger seat was calling out for him. He suddenly pulled the man's head up before beating him and dropping his body. He reached into the car, choking the woman next.
Annabelle shot up in bed, her chest heaving and body slick with sweat. She took a deep breath, holding it before letting it out and starting to calm. She looked up to see the tv above her desk still playing some forgotten show. She reached for the remote and turned it off, content to sit in the moonlight streaming in from the window. She looked around the room to calm herself. Her desk was against the wall, across from the foot of her bed. Her laptop sat on the desk along with some files for a new mission. Tony and Steve had insisted on her decorating her room to make it seem more cozy and like a home instead of a cell. She didn't do much though. Just a bookshelf filled with all sorts of books that Tony had her reading for school and some she had found for fun. There were a couple photographs littered around the room. Some had been returned to her and Steve from the museum and others had been taken with her and the other Avengers. She grabbed the extra blanket from the foot on the bed, wrapping up in it to provide some comfort, fingers coming to rub the worn leather on her wrist before moving to play with the dog tags around her neck. She knew that they had to leave in the morning for another mission, so she laid back down, forcing herself to close her eyes and try to get some sleep. Morning came too soon though and after hours of restlessness, she allowed herself to go to the kitchen and make herself some tea and a small breakfast.
"Morning," Steve said as he walked in.
"Hey," she glanced at him with a smile. "I'm about to make pancakes. You want any?"
"As long as they have syrup."
"Oh, you know it. I'm never going back to eating plain collision mats again."
Soft entry into the book and late, so I apologize. Things definitely start picking up in the next chapter. Get ready because this book is going to be a wild ride!
