It was a sunny and cheerful morning; full of birds chirping and faint drumming from the streets. A fresh breeze came through the princess's large window and kissed her bare dark shoulders. The wind felt like a soft caress above her eyebrows and the side of her neck, almost as if it had said good morning in the gentlest of ways. Shuri dressed up in a loose purple plain and thin dress and also wore a bracelet which never left her wrist of green gemstones and dainty pearls. The sleepy Panther was ready to head to her laboratory, but a soft knock on her door made her halt. The door slid to the left and a familiar face popped out with a bright smile.
"Princess!" Namor exclaimed, enthusiastic. Shuri suppressed a smile, feeling her stomach turn into all sorts of knots, then moved to the side so he would come inside. His presence filled her room to the brim with his warm and soft yet firm voice. "How did you sleep?" She asked him, her hands fidgeting while the broad man made himself at home. "Delightful. How about you?" "Good..." Shuri answered, her voice slightly high-pitched. Namor was carrying a basket and whatever was inside was covered with a red silk cloth; Shuri was immediately drawn to it. "What's that?" "Ahh. This? It's nothing." He said with a smirk and purposely set the little basket near her nightstand. "It's nothing and yet you leave it here?" "Princess, I'm just trying to spike your interest. Come sit with me." His hand guided her to one of the fluffy chairs of her coffee table, and she reluctantly sat there while Namor eyed her from head to toe. "Had breakfast already?" He asked, raising one of his eyebrows, "I was on my way to eat something," "hm, what did I say about lying to me?" "I'm not—" "Hey Griot! Can you hear me?" "Yes K'uk'ulkan," the A. I answered as her beads illuminated. "Could you possibly relay a message to the kitchen staff to bring breakfast for two?" "Right away." Shuri furrowed her eyebrows, thinking it was funny how Namor had casually talked with Griot. "Since when do you speak to him?" "Since today." He sat across from her with the little coffee table between them, but even then, Namor felt like the distance was huge.
The god-king leaned forwards and set his elbows on the table, his jewelry glinting as he did so. His eyes like cinnamon set on her own, peeking into her mind the more he stared at her. Shuri looked to the side as she bit the inside of her cheek. "Why are you here?" She asked as she crossed her arms over her chest, pretending to be upset. "No reason," "don't you know it's bad manners to come to the princess's chambers uninvited?" "Is your boyfriend not allowed to come in here?" "Yes, but you aren't my boyfriend, therefore, not allowed to come in here."
Namor laid back on the chair and cleared his throat as he pressed his lips on a thin line. His eyes darted to the window, and the sun had turned his twin cinnamons into golden flames. Shuri wanted to laugh, and boop his scrunched nose, but resisted. "I protest. We. Are. Dating. My rightful title is that of a boyfriend, isn't it?" "Not till the council knows about it," "Oh princess, but the sky is a witness of our feelings." She rolled her eyes and snorted. "Are you laughing at me?" He sounded so dramatic, raising his eyebrows and everything, "when are you going to stop being a crybaby?" "Who is a crybaby?" "You, mister boyfriend." Namor formed an o with his lips and eventually succumbed to a wide smile as Shuri laughed freely. Her voice, like music, warmed his racing heart.
Food was served on two beautiful orange plates. Breakfast consisted of poached eggs, spicy tomato sauce, sausages, and spices, and there was toast with butter on the side. It was all paired up with fresh orange juice. There was a smaller plate in the middle with kiwi, strawberries, and peeled oranges. "Will you tell me what's inside the basket?' Shuri asked, dipping her bread in the tomato sauce. "After we finish, sure." The princess glared at him from in-between her eyelashes, enjoying the way his fingers slowly picked a strawberry and placed it between his lips till he finally bit into it. "I know I'm handsome but you don't have to look at me like that," "you? Handsome?" She scoffed playfully, biting into the bread. "Well, this ugly more-than-a-friend of yours is done with breakfast. I enjoyed it thoroughly and now I will take my leave." Namor stood from his spot and Shuri, who wasn't done with breakfast, followed him. "You leaving?" "I have a meeting with the king," "I didn't mean what I said," "So, do you admit I am good-looking?" He asked, smirking, knowing full well what it did to her. "I have no other option, do I?" She asked and Namor turned around away from her, "I will leave then," he acted hurt and Shuri was aware of it, following along with his little dramatic game. "Wait wait wait," she grabbed his hand, her fingers could barely hold his wrists because of his golden cuffs. Namor came to a halt and smiled as he saw the eager look in the eyes of his Panther.
"Don't look at me like that, or else I won't leave." Namor leaned closer, grabbed her chin with the tip of his fingers, and then tilted her head just right. "I wish you wouldn't leave," she whispered, mere inches away from him. The sub-mariner closed the gap between each other, his lips pressing warmly as his beard slightly brushed against her skin. The jade piece of his nose felt cool on her cheek but she didn't mind. Shuri brought her hands to his waist and lingered there by the hem of his shorts. Goosebumps ran through his body at her mere touch, and his heart skipped a beat when she rested her hands there.
"Princess, I will be late," he breathed almost painfully, but his lips went back to her as if he couldn't resist. "I'm not stopping you," she managed to say, knowing full well what she was doing to him. Namor lifted her up with ease and sat her on the bed, and his hands big in comparison to her face brushed against her jaw and earlobe. Shuri opened her lips, inviting him inside and he took that opportunity. Namor grunted softly, feeling her lipgloss all over him, tasting like coconut and what they had for breakfast. "Hm Shuri," he breathed, pushing her down on the bed as her hands ran across his broad back upwards till one hand held on to the nape of his neck and the other was on his head, feeling his locks of black hair between her fingers.
Namor moved back away from her, joyous and flustered, "you're evil," he lightly panted. Shuri twirled on one of her braids as she sit up, pleased with the look on his face. "I can't resist my ugly boyfriend after all," "very funny. Tonight, at 10. I will be back," "thanks for the heads up. Now I know I have to lock my door," she said with a laugh and Namor shook his head, his smile never leaving his lips as he walked away.
Once the princess was left alone, she snatched the basket and looked inside. Shuri had been dying to know what was from the very beginning. Was it jewelry? Precious gemstones? Or seashells adorned with diamonds? Maybe a nice hairpiece? She was very much used to his gifts but felt as if her heart would burst whenever he came by with a new one. To her surprise, it was full of heart-shaped chocolates. There was a handwritten note in cursive on a brown thick paper rolled and knotted with a red ribbon. She opened it up and began to read as her heart swelled with so many feelings.
I was recently introduced to something called valentine's day by the little scientists. Thanks to her recipe, which to be honest, puzzled me a little, I managed to make some American-style chocolates. It pained me to know that some people receive love once a year while I die to express my love for you every second of my existence.
Distance has caused a dent in my heart. At night, when I wished I could have you between my arms, there's nothing but the lingering memory of your warmth to console me in my sleep.
When I sit on my throne and rule left and right, I long for your presence, your sovereignty by my side as Queen.
Even in the humblest of places when it's simply the sand beneath my feet and sky above my head, I wished I could spend it all with you.
Your kisses are like sweet chocolate. Your lips are simply delicious, and lovely. You feel like fire against my skin, leaving invisible burns that feel hot even when you're gone.
Your embrace is like honey, oh so sweet my days go by slowly till I have you around my arms.
Your hands with mine fit like pieces of wood and stone made for each other. You make me wish I could let go of everything and stand by your side, holding your hand wherever I go.
My princess, my Shuri, my Queen. The ruler of my heart; I love you.
-Your K'uk'ulkan.
Shuri squeaked as she pressed the note against her chest, then laid on her bed as she kicked her legs up, feeling all giddy and soft inside. It was clear Riri had influenced the almighty God-king of Talokan in various positive ways. She popped a chocolate into her mouth and let it melt there. It was sweet and had nuts in the middle along with what seemed to be strawberry jam. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and with a tiny hint of salt. Shuri didn't like chocolates that much, but because they were from him, somehow they tasted like heaven.
