Imani

The world swivled around me, engulfing me in a twisted whirlwind. By now I've forgotten how many drinks I had or how much time has gone by. All I knew was that Destiny was trying to stop my fun.

She had been chasing me down around the house trying to get me to concede that I was drunk, which I was, but I didn't want to admit it. "Give me your cup Imani, you've had enough." Her cute buttom nose scrunched up in annoyance. It was too cute to not be touched, so I took it upon myself to do so. I pressed the tip of her nose giggling. "Boop!"

She rolled her eyes and goes for my cup again only for me to push her arm away. "Look D, th-this is nor- . ." I took a moment. Even in my drunken state, my mind won't let me speak my next words.

This is normal.

And in no way should it be. Apparently even though I'm drunk, the deepest darkest parts of me wouldn't come out. No matter how good I feel, no matter how loose I get, I couldn't for the life of me, just let go. "- I just fucking need this okay?!"  I snapped at her as if she was the problem. I was the problem, and in no way was I ready to be fixed. "You're fucking trippen right now Imani. If I knew you was like this I wouldn't have let you drink."

She spoke to me. The attitude was apparent in her tone, and it only made me feel worse than I already did. She didn't deserve this. To baby sit a lost puppy who didn't know how to handle her drinks well. It was a pity to feel this way. I bet it was a pity to see it first hand as well.

"Just go D." I said lowly. I'd find my own way home. I didn't feel like I deserved to be around her with how I had acted. "Girl what?! Shut up, I'm not about to leave you."  I wanted to protest, but my drink being taken from my grasp stopped me from uttering a single word.

"Let's go." He said. Even with the loud bass of the music throughout the house, I could still hear his voice. Deep and brass mingled together, creating the perfect harmony for my ears. I looked to Destiny only for her to be staring right back at me. "I'll take you both home." Isaiah spoke again. He placed my red cup somewhere behind him before facing us again. His eyes drifted down to mine. They focused on me. Daring me to say no. He didn't look to happy, but then again he never seemed to be. "Come on toots I don't have all day."

"Come on sis, I am ready to go home." Hearing Destiny's plea is what caused me to throw in the towel. I shook my head, and gripped the railing to help myself up. I didn't realize how drunk I had gotten until the world started to spin around me. My legs felt weak and my first step almost caused me to fall.

"Shit.." I heard next to me. I wasn't sure if it had come from Destiny or Isaiah, but it didn't matter. As soon as the thought came it left just as fast. My body became light and it suddenly felt like I was floating. My cheeks burned in embarrassment. He was carrying me, but that's not the part that caused my cheeks to tint. It was the fact that when his woodsy cologne hit my nose, I greedily took in more. He smelled so good. So good that I wanted to just melt right there.

He lead a through the crowd with ease. No doubt causing a scene and turning a few heads. I felt Destiny gripping the hook of my pants so that she could follow us easily.

Once we were outside, I shivered as the night breeze swept across my warm flesh. I gripped him tighter, as if I needed all his warmth to consume me. This felt nice. I liked being near him. Even if we argued over something stupid. He kept my mind off of other things in my life so easily, without even trying.

Destiny did as well, but there were moments when just being around her wasn't enough. I would always feel like I wasn't being so truthful with her like she deserved. At least with Isaiah, I could pretend to be something I'm not.

I could pretend to be whole. It's not like we'd be anything more. Who cares if he didn't know the real me.

He stopped at a black Toyota truck. Unlocking it swiftly, he opened the passenger side, allowing Destiny to hop in first. She sat herself in the back instantly getting on her phone.

Isaiah went to place me in the passenger seat. He adjusted me accordingly so that I wouldn't hit my head on the way in.

When he pulled back from me, he was yanked back abruptly.

Our chains were tangled, wrapped together in a tangled mess.

Both our chains holding an 'I' pendant. We stopped for a moment. The world with it. His eyes lifted to meet mine. Our faces a few inches away from each other.

Something flashed in his eyes. Something that looked like desire. Something I would've never guessed with the way he acted towards me.

All to soon, our moment was over. Destiny's phone playing an irrelevant Tik Tok in the background thrusted us back into reality.
Quickly. He unraveled our chains and slammed my door shut.

When he got into the car on his side, he seemed irritated, and surely I hoped it wasn't because of me.

Isaiah started the car and drove off not a second later.
