~ ABOUT OUR PROGRAM ~

It's hard to believe we're embarking on our fourth Wattys season here at the Bootcamp Mentors, and we're excited to help a new batch of talented writers prepare their stories for the 'Big Dance'! Whether you are a returning mentee hopeful, or this is your first time visiting our profile, you will find all the details in the chapters of this book.

How does it work?

During the Bootcamp submission window (May 2023), you will pitch your completed (50K word min) or ongoing (40K word min) story to our mentors. You can choose up to three mentors. Your story needs to be available on Wattpad in its entirety, and you must intend to submit the same manuscript to the Wattys. (see our Rules chapter for more details)

Our mentors will consider each manuscript submitted to them and choose one mentee from those submissions. If you are chosen as a mentee, you and your mentor will work on your manuscript for eleven (11) weeks from June 1st through August 8th). You will edit, revise, and polish until the piece is ready for submission to the Wattys.

What is in it for the mentee?

You will end up with a polished manuscript that will be ready for the Wattys! You will be expected to work on your manuscript for the duration of the mentorship. You must be open to feedback and in-depth discussions with your mentor. If you are not willing to put in the work or you're just looking for a pat on the back, this program is not for you. It's also not an easy way to get reads, votes, and comments. This is hard work. If you are not up to the challenge, or your schedule won't allow it, please do not apply and take a spot from someone who is really invested.

What is in it for the mentor?

The satisfaction of giving back. We donate our time because we all had help along the way. We know that a manuscript needs many sets of eyes in order to be the best version it can be. Helping our fellow writers find their inner muse and nurturing their strengths feels pretty awesome.

What's next?

Leading up to this year's Wattys kickoff, we will hold workshops in the Bootcamp Mentors Discord server (link in bio). We will also post chapters here in this book with details about each workshop. These useful tips will help you prepare your manuscript for submission to our mentors. You will need more than a polished story to enter the Wattys, which is why our workshops focus on writing a great logline, blurb, and summary, as well as advice on creating a professional-looking story cover.

If you are considering becoming a mentee, we highly recommend you join our discord server, add this book to your library, and follow our profile so you are notified of announcements and updates.

Are you looking to become a mentor?

If you are interested in becoming a mentor and you are in the Wattpad Creators program, an Exclusive or Paid Stories writer, a published author, repped by a literary agent, or a trained editor, please read the first chapter in our Profile Guide to learn more. You can then message us in a PM or leave an inline comment. We will be in touch.

Keep writing and stay tuned. Once this year's Bootcamp season gets underway, there will be more chapters to follow!
