Snow Day

Peter started to dread December. Even though there was Christmas, which Peter loved because he would see his family from SHIELD, but it would get really cold. The first year Peter wasn't ready for the change of season and it brought the cold and harsh wind. This year though he knew it was coming, which was why he was dreading it. It is past November now but it hasn't gotten cold yet but Peter knows that it's coming.

Peter had always had problems with regulating heat, after he got his spider powers he had been more sensitive to the cold. One reason he was happy to now be living in Iowa is there was only the end of November to the end of February where the days would go below 60 degrees (Fahrenheit, or about 15 degrees Celsius) so most of the year he was fine in a T-shirt and jeans. November through February he would always be freezing but he could deal with it if he stayed inside and had layers of clothes on.

Peter though in the two years living in Iowa it had never snowed.

Waking up in his fluffy sweatpants and his hoodie his mom got him for his seventh birthday, Peter realized that he was colder than usual. At first he figured that the cold had just gotten worse like it had continuously been for the past week. Looking out his open window though he saw powdery white covering the fields he had grown accustomed to over the past two years.

"What's this?" he quietly mumbled before turning around to walk downstairs like most mornings.

Walking down he was met with the sight of Clint and Laura making pancakes while Natasha was making Hot Chocolate. Cooper sitting in his spot eating pancakes already and Lila in a booster seat playing with a pancake that was given to her. This only confused Peter more. The only time they ever had pancakes was for special occasions and they only had Hot Chocolate for feeling better after nightmares.

"What's special about today?" Peter finally questioned after not being able to figure it out himself.

"What?"

"Why are you and Aunt Laura making pancakes? Then why is mom making Hot Chocolate? Did I forget a holiday or something?"

"No! It's just your first snow day with us." Laura responded kindly while put plates of pancakes on the table.

"Is that what's outside?"

"What do you mean?" Clint asked while sitting down at his spot.

"Is it snowing outside? That's what the white stuff in the air is?"

"Yeah, have you never seen snow bud?"

"After they learned that I couldn't regulate heat well the doctors kept me at the warmest part of the cells so that I wouldn't go into a shock coma again. I barely even knew what cold meant was before coming here."

The adults tucked that information into mind before Clint cut the tension.

"Good, that means I get to show you how to have a proper snow day."

"Snow day, snow day, snow day," Cooper began to ramble over and over with his face covered in syrup.

"That's right Coop, you and Pete get to have your first snow day. First you need to wash your face though."

"Awww." Cooper deflated.

Peter stifled a laugh so he wouldn't spit out his pancake but Cooper sometimes just made Peter laugh without meaning to.

Peter then lent over to speak into Cooper's ear "Sooner you clean your face the sooner you can go play out in the snow Coop." before he finished his pancake and brought his plate to the sink.
