I wake up to the sun shining in my face. I roll over and see Harmony still sleeping. I get up and walk into the bathroom, I brush my teeth then hop in the shower for ten minutes and get out. I go into my closet and pick out a suit.
Once I'm dressed I head down stairs into the kitchen and I'm surprised to see my
Mother in law.
"Good morning, Patricia." I say to her while walking to the counter.
"Morning Ethan." She says to me while plating the food.
"Did you get here this morning?" I ask her while pouring some coffee into my to go mug.
"No, we actually got in last night." She says taking the plates over to the table.
"Daddy!"
I turn around to see Harmony and I daughter standing at the kitchen entrance.
"Mel- bear" I say to her.
She runs and jumps into my arms and I hug her tight. Melody likes to spend the summer with Patricia traveling since she doesn't get to see her that often when school is in.
"I missed you." She says to me.
"I missed you too, Did you have fun with Grandma Pat in Paris?" I ask her.
"Yes, it's so beautiful there Daddy and they have a lot of good food." She says with a big smile.
"I'm glad you're having fun, where are you guys going next?" I ask while looking at Patricia.
" I was thinking Bali or New Orleans." She says after taking a sip of her orange juice.
"Can you and mommy come?" Melody ask with a big smile.
"I can't sweetheart, I have to work but I promise we'll have a daddy daughter day before you go back to school." I say while pinching her cheek.
"Okay, oh wait I bought you a present." She says while running out of the kitchen.
"So how was your night." Patricia ask me.
"Long, I had to revise a contract for an important client. I didn't get home until about nine or nine thirty.
"You had Harmony waiting for you until nine thirty?" She ask me with an angry expression.
"Harmony knew that I had a situation yesterday. I told her before I left for work, it's not a big deal." I say to her.
"Are you serious?, You had my daughter waiting for you at....
"Mama."
We both look towards the kitchen and see Melody standing there with Harmony. I notice how disheveled Harmony hair is and the tiredness in her face.
"Harmony." Patricia says with a concerned look on her face.
"What's going on?" I ask looking between the two.
"Nothing, go to work Ethan." Harmony says heading to the table.
"Harmony did I.....
"Just go, Princess come eat before your food gets cold." She says to Melody while sitting down.
Melody walks over to the table and sit down. I go to walk out of the kitchen and she stops me.
"Daddy your present." Melody says.
