Third Person POV

"jesus, Myc, please just shut the fuck up for like two seconds." Reagan massaged her weary temples as she leaned on the awkwardly triangular centre table of the conference room of which a small group of disinterested colleagues were unwillingly gathered.

"suck my dicks, Reagan." Myc's snarky and predictable response came. if he had a mouth he'd definitely be smirking.

"nice." Andre snorted and high fived the perverted fungi; instant regret hit the man smack in the face. his hand wiped desperately away at the slimy tentacle residue on his already stained lab coat, cold shiver running through his spine. why, and more importantly, how did he always forget?

"okay, okay guys, hey!! let's listen to Reagan how about? because if you don't, i have a feeling things could end very, very badly!" Brett's nervous laughter interrupted, worried eyes focused on the large growing vein in Reagan's forehead as she glared an icy hole through the group. the simple action was enough to make Gigi click out of Twitter, which was really saying something.

the large room filled with a stiff silence, soon to be broken only by an agitated sigh from Reagan as she ran a hand through her knotted hair. "right. first of all, fuck you all. you guys suck-"

"dick." Myc interjected with a stupid laugh. Andre, of course, joined him and once again, high fived the mushroom.

Reagan shot them both a glare steely enough to kill as Andre desperately scrubbed at his contaminated hand, shutting either man up instantly. "and second of all, we got a new member to the task force."

"a new member of the gang!!" Brett added joyously, hands clapping together in an excited flurry. "how exciting is this!? another member to our happy family." he sighed as an overjoyed grin worked its way onto his chiselled face.

"another one of you? oh lord help me." Glenn muttered loudly enough for all to hear. "why the hell do we need another one?"

"glad ya asked, Glenn!" Reagan grinned, bloodshot eyes lighting up. "as we all know, there's been a lot going on with the Atlantians, krakens, and a lot of general aquatic bullshit lately. soooo, our head of aquatic research and expeditions has agreed, or more accurately, been forced by JR, to work within our circle-"

"family!" Brett interjected once again, happy grin planted firm upon his face.

"anyways-" she sighed in obvious irritation, clearly already on her last straw; just hold it together a minute longer, you've got this... "she should be here in just a couple minutes."

"she better not be some baby boomer like Glenn." Gigi grumbled, manicured fingernails tapping against folded arms as she shot a disgusted sideways glance towards the mutated man.

"actually she's the youngest one here," Reagan flicked through the pile of research papers for Andre's latest discovery disinterestedly; 'Super-Coke'... jesus christ. "25, PHD in Marine Biology and Microbiology, been working with us for just under 4 months and became head of her department within two of those."

"well... i'd say more like 9 weeks with all the paperwork and shit."

all heads turned to the young woman leaning against the doorway of their conference room, grin plastered across her face. she wore a grubby lab coat, stains patterned every which way, baggy jeans and a crumpled tank top beneath. her face told the story of a woman that hadn't slept in about 6 years or so, as evident by the dark violet circles underneath her eyes. despite her somewhat mad scientist appearance, she seemed... interesting. very Reagan-ish, or so thought most of the group.

Reagan smiled warmly, or as warmly as she could, as their tired eyes locked. they were already good friends, colleagues bonded over lack of sleep and overload of work in the after hours of the office; they'd both been working on some stupid overcomplicated project of their own, and of course refused to sleep until the work was done. "excuse me, 9 weeks then." she rolled her eyes deep into the back of her brain as Y/n closed the heavy door behind her and made her way to the conference table.
