Summary:
Pam I-Am claims to have always been alone, but that's not quite the case. As there was a time when Pam had someone special of her own and wasn't prepared to lose.
-Pam I-Am was familiar with danger; she bore it almost daily without hesitation. As a spy, Pam knew the risks and kept to herself, only engaging with others when necessary.
However, that changed when the Spy Elite assigned her a partner, saying that Pam was becoming too reckless.
Pam, as stubborn as she was, argued that having a partner would only hold her back and keep her from succeeding, but everyone ignored her complaints.
That's when she met him; Maverick McDuff, also known as Mac. A man with a carefree smile and regarded life with a positive outlook. He was a few inches shorter than Pam and had red-orangish fur that came up to his neck, where the rest of his face was white.
Pam didn't think it was possible, but she detested this man with all of her being. She can only conclude that Maverick had to be a rookie to be so upbeat because none of Pam's fellow spies acted like this.
'Perhaps he'll quit once he realizes he can't keep up with me.' Pam thought to herself, feeling a sense of confidence.
So now, feeling better about the situation, Pam continued her life as usual and waited for Maverick to tire of her.
But surprisingly, Maverick managed to keep up with Pam. Regardless of the obstacles, he always stayed by her side.
While Maverick kept up his insatiable optimism with his fellow spies, he did have a serious side when it came to missions, and Pam couldn't help but respect him for that.
In their few years as partners, Pam became close to Maverick. They were so close, and in fact, people would say they were a little too friendly with each other.
It was mostly just friendly flirting, so Pam didn't take anything they said seriously; she only found herself having fun.
But that all changed that one night. It amazed Pam how one night could change everything, but it did, and she would be paying for those consequences for the rest of her life.
It had been a party set up by the Spy Elite to celebrate all the successful missions accomplished by many employed spies.
Pam and Maverick were perfectly dressed as they went back and forth with their usual banter.
Without much thought, Pam and Maverick chugged down many glasses of fizzy pop, one thing led to another, and Pam found herself sleeping in Maverick's bed the following day with a killer hangover.
Pam had been so mortified that she rushed to get her clothes on before leaving the apartment complex in a hurry.
'How could I be so careless?! This could ruin everything!' Pam scolded herself as she probably just ruined her friendship with Maverick.
It didn't take long for Maverick to call Pam up to ask if they could meet somewhere, which she begrudgingly agreed to, knowing there was no way around it.
They met at a nearby cafe, and Maverick ordered a plate of green eggs and ham while Pam just stuck with a milkshake, not having an appetite for anything.
Maverick was uncharacteristically quiet as he glanced over at his partner.
"Listen, Pam," He started slowly, "Last night, I hope you know I would never take advantage of you. I don't really remember much, but if I did something to hurt you, I'm sorry."
Pam awkwardly turned to face Maverick while keeping a calm expression.
"McDuff, I don't recall being uncomfortable last night. I suppose we had a little too much to drink and got carried away. I just don't want this to change anything between us."
