what if's again The Hula Bar, Pearl Harbor July 23, 1941 Amelia
My heart was taken from me that day, and with it everything my life had once been.
The world continues to spin all around me as normal. Though mine hasn't thawed from the moment the icy news left Danny's unusual cold lips.
It was a known promise that Rafe and Danny shared. One of which neither of them wanted to ever perform, though Danny swore and stood firm on his word... all the way to its end when that god forsaken day came.
They say love comes when you least expect it. So does grief. The king of the skies, the one to always put me in my place, the one who no matter what, done all he could to protect me.
My older brother was gone...
Just the mere thought swirled in my mind like a deadly poison. So badly my body wanted to rid itself free from of its ravishing havoc it's done to my soul.
A soul that I'm almost certain no longer exists.
People are flooding through the Hula Bar's entrance, their sincere nods and kind smiles all began to fade together. Everything was moving so fast, yet there I sat upon a stool, so lonely and frozen in place. Had it not been from Betty's thoughtful gesture to comb the knots from my hair and slide a clean dress over me— I'd be sitting here with a mountain of sun hued tangles, clothed in a tear stained shirt that I've been safely tucked away in the past few days.
There were so many of Rafe's friends here that he had met over the years throughout his military adventures. That oddly enough seemed to have only just began as quickly as it ended. So many faces—
Though not a single one stood out.
Not til he appeared.
A hushed ignite to a match sparked to life before me and with it, warming of what felt to be icicles floating in my veins. It was only briefly lived. But definitely more than needed.
A typical Danny Walker move. Bringing me warmth on a cold, late July evening in Hawaii.
His brown specs searched the crowd, tugging a forced led smile as others greeted him. Though nothing was able to end his frantic search, not til those loving eyes of his met mine.
A silent grin quickly casted over my lips. No one saw it as it vanished in the passing time it took For Danny to emerge from the blurred people.
