Part Seven: The Warning

As Alex sat at his desk prepping for the upcoming meeting, he noticed a familiar presence behind him. It was Amelia, the only colleague who had shown him kindness since becoming Chloe. She greeted him with a smile, saying "Hey Sweet Thang!" which for some reason, made Alex's nerves relax a little. "What's up?" he replied, trying to sound casual.

"I heard about that bonus! Congrats Girly, that's something to be proud of!" Amelia exclaimed, genuinely happy for him. Alex thanked her softly, still feeling uneasy about the situation. "But between you and me... girlfriend to girlfriend... I do want to warn you, there was more to that contract you signed than you realize," Amelia continued, her voice raising from a whisper. "I wouldn't worry about it though, just embrace it and think about the extra money! Anyways, good luck in that meeting this afternoon," she said, patting Alex's shoulder before walking away.

Alex's mind started to race. "What did she mean by that? What more could there be?" he thought to himself. He knew that something was off and that he needed to investigate further, but he didn't want to risk losing the job that he needed so badly. So, for the time being, he decided to push those thoughts aside and focus on the meeting ahead.

As he walked to the conference room, Alex couldn't help but feel like everyone was staring at him. He felt like a fraud, a fake, and he was worried that everyone would see right through him. But he forced himself to put on a smile and push through the meeting as best he could and managed to close that deal.
