(this story begins on Wednesday's first day at Nevermore)

Wednesday's POV:

I stand at the entryway of Nevermore Academy, already dreading taking another step. The sprawling grounds, the large ivy-covered walls, the imposing statues – it's all just a reminder of the power and influence this prestigious school evidently holds.

My mother had been talking nonstop on the drive here, unable to contain her excitement at finally being able to bring me to the school she once attended. But all I can think about is the fear that I'm about to become another pawn in the game they play here.

I can feel the pressure from my mother's expectations, yet I know I can't let myself get sucked into the culture of Nevermore. I can't allow myself to become a carbon copy of the others here, just another faceless student among the masses. I can't let them take away my identity and individuality.

No matter how much this place means to my mother, I'm determined to resist the temptation to conform. I will not give to my parents' nefarious, yet seemingly obvious, plan.

We walk to the office of the principal, passing photos of previous classes. I see my mother point out a frame that had her and my father on it. My nose scrunches slightly in disgust and we move on.

"You must be Wednesday!" I hear a woman say as we walk through the door.

I remain silent, not offering her any response. My gaze is steady, unyielding in its intensity. She looks at me expectantly for a few moments before realizing that I'm not going to give her an answer. With a slight shrug of her shoulders, she turns and heads back towards her desk.

I can tell by the way she moves that she's disappointed and frustrated with my lack of response. But I don't budge; instead I stay rooted in place, watching as she slowly makes her way across the room and back to her seat.

Ms. Weems informed me that I would be rooming with a werewolf in Ophelia Hall. Although it wasn't my original plan, I was surprisingly excited by the idea. Ever since I was a young girl, I have been fascinated by werewolves and their mysterious ability to transform into a powerful creature. I thought rooming with a werewolf would be the perfect opportunity to learn more about them, and maybe even conduct some research.

"And about Wednesday's.... therapy sessions." My mother says hesitantly. I look over at her. Therapy sessions? The boy lost a testicle, I did the world a favor, not letting him reproduce.

We make our way to my dorm and when I open the door I feel as if someone had thrown an axe into my abdomen. The room was decked with brightly colored decorations. Next to her bed was a tall stack of stuffed creatures of all colors. The window was covered with pallets that colored the light that shined through. Everything was so... vivid. It hurt my eyes to just look at it.

"Wednesday, this is Enid Sinclair, your roommate."

A brightly clothed girl skipped up with open arms. "Welcome to Ophelia hall!" I took a step back, notifying her that I did not want to be touched.

"Not a hugger, got it."

My little hope I had that the next several months wasn't going to be as terrible as I thought quickly vanished. I glanced at my parents and their smiles faded.

"Enid, why don't you give Wednesday a tour on the way to pick up her uniform."

She had a bright, beaming smile on her face as she bounded past me towards the door. Her shoulder brushed against my arm and I felt a wave of revulsion course through my body. I could feel my parents' eyes on me as I passed them, unable to hide the anger in my expression. My fists clenched at my sides and I quickened my pace so that I could escape from their presence as quickly as possible.
