Wednesday's POV:

I write the number of Enid's laptop on Thing's palm and send him to Galpin's house. After a few minutes of Enid showing me how to use it, he calls me. I sit in front of the camera and accept the call.

"Uh, hi." He looks just to the right of the camera with a frightened face.

"That's Thing."

Still looking at him he says. "Is he your... pet?" He watches him as he most likely flips him off.

"He's sensitive."

"Look, I know Nevermore, like, ground zero for all things weird, but this is next-level." He pauses for a second, looking back at me. "So I though you didn't want to be a slave of technology."

"Desperate times. Are you still willing to help me escape?"

"After what happened today, I figured they'd have you in solitary."

"There's a harvest fest this weekend. Attendance is mandatory. I'm going to use it for cover. If you are willing to drive me to the station, I can make it worth your while." I say, ignoring his attempt at being humorous.

"I'm in. And... no charge. Consider it a freebie."

I wonder what his reason is for the sudden change in heart. "Why?"

"Cause I wish I was going with you. At least one of us will get out of the hellhole town."

We look at each other for a second then we hang up.

"You good?" Enid says as I was still looking at the screen.

"Yeah, it's just strange he would do this big of a favor for free without hesitation."

"It's cause he likes you."

I look over at her. "What?"

"Tyler. He likes you. And, although I know you won't admit it, you like him too."

What the fuck? "I do not like Tyler. He is simply just doing me a favor."

"Okay." He says lengthening the 'y' at the end to show that she didn't believe me.

I take a deep breath and slowly begin to move over to my desk, carefully packing up a few of my items. I'm trying to ignore Enid's presence, as if I could somehow make her disappear just by pretending she isn't there. I can feel her intense gaze on me as I hurriedly transfer my textbooks, notebooks, and other belongings into my suitcase. I zipped the bag closed and set it in the corner of my room, far away from her.

It's Thursday and the Harvest Fest isn't until Saturday. I still have to attend my Friday classes, so I won't be able to leave for the weekend yet. I sneak a glance back at Enid and I can tell that something is wrong. She has her head down and is tapping away at her phone with a forlorn expression on her face. I consider asking her what's wrong, but I'm too preoccupied with my own thoughts to really pay attention to her.

I take a deep breath as I settle into my chair at my desk and position my hands on the typwriter, ready to start typing. I had already done an hour of writing earlier in the day, but I feel like I have more to say and I can't help myself from continuing. I try to focus on the words that are forming on the page, pushing away any thoughts of Enid that are trying to penetrate my consciousness. She had looked so troubled earlier, but I can't seem to be able to make out what was bothering her. I've never been god at predicting peoples' emotions.

I can feel her eyes boring into me, like she's trying to read my thoughts. I try my best to ignore her presence and continue with my writing. I'm no mind reader, so I can't even begin to think what she might be feeling. It's times like this that I wish I was better at understanding people's emotions.
