Watching the sky fade from baby-blue to rosy violet, I began to worry less about my injuries and more about my friend.

Did he lose his way to the convenience store? I thought, feeling an uneasy twist in my stomach as I furrowed my brows in concern.

Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice from the distance. It was my mother.

"Kai! Where are you?!" She shouted frantically in search of me.

Tears welled up in my eyes, "Mommy! I'm right here!"

Upon hearing my voice, she raced over to my location. She gasped, "What happened?! Why is your leg bloody?!" She scanned my injury with panic in her eyes.

"I fell off of the swing and Taehyun went to grab bandages but he didn't come back!" I sobbed loudly, sensing the familiarity of tears trickling down my cheeks.

"Oh dear! He must have returned home by now. Let's get you to the hospital, immediately!" She rushed me over to our family car and sped to the nearest hospital.

After getting examined by the doctor, I received a cast for my broken leg and returned home. However, I couldn't help but think something was up with Taehyun's disappearance.

I grabbed my crutches and quietly opened the front door, slipping outside. I strolled over to Taehyun's house and knocked on the door a few times, but no response could be heard from the other side of the door.

"Taehyun? Are you there?" I whispered. However, the silence prevailed, still no answers.

I quickly returned home on my crutches, entering my mothers room

"Mommy? Are you awake?" I asked, peering over her bed.

"Huh? Why are you up so late, Kai? Go back to bed, kiddo" She said rubbing her eyes as she stood up to lead me back to my bedroom.

Tears welled up in my eyes, "T-Taehyun isn't in his h-house! S-Something happened to him!" I mumbled in between broken sobs.

"I'm sure he is around here somewhere, don't worry Kai" She ruffled my hair in a form meaning to comfort me.

"M-Mommy, please d-do something! He w-would have said something to me if he returned home!" I cried.

"He left you at the playground. He seems like a bad friend, forget about him." She frowned.

"He didn't leave me on purpose! He got lost! I know it! Please, mommy! Tell the police before it's too late!" I pleaded, desperate for my mother to take action.

"Again Kai, I am certain that he is alright. Now, go back to bed please" At this point, she was fed up with me.

"F-Fine! I'll go look for him myself then!" I stomped out of her room and bolted to the front door, swinging it open without a second thought.

"KAI! Stop!" My mother ran after me and pulled me back inside, stopping me in my tracks.

"HE ISN'T IN HIS HOUSE! LET ME FIND HIM, MOMMY!" I whined while protesting her powerful grip on my arm.

My mother finally snapped, slapping me across the face while screaming, "KAI! STOP THIS NONSENSE RIGHT NOW! GO BACK TO BED, THIS INSTANT!"

I sobbed even louder, "FINE, I'LL GO BACK TO MY ROOM!" I stormed to my chamber, slamming the door behind me as hard as I could. I wrapped myself inside of my blanket and bawled my eyes out, hiccuping painfully from the waterfall of salty tears gushing against my cheeks.

I hope he's okay, was the singular thought on my mind for the remainder of the night.
