Sorry that this chapter is very late, life decided to screw me over these two weeks, but I made this chapter longer and there are some interesting (I hope) things in it. I will create a list of runes so you all will know how they look, so please have a great day and enjoy this chapter!
----------🍄🌻It had only taken a few days to get to the Ubarr territory from where they were in the capital, even though it is bit earlier than they should be since Tunka will arrive in the next two days. The smell of salt and the cool breeze from the sea reaches through the open window and plays in the hair of the three people with the fur of the two children while the black dragon lays on Olen’s lap. Olen looks out the open window and down from the high cliff that they are on, the Cliff of Winds, as the children look out before the two cat tribe children went back to their seat next to Olen.
“I like the smell, but not the water.”
“Same nya...”
The two kittens look at the pillow that they were on before Hans gives them some treats, hoping to cheer them up. The various small islands that litter the sea are known as the Hais Islands and they are numbered in the order they were discovered; however, Olen was planning to create more stronger whirlpools for later on. He might be a terrible person, but he knows when something needs to be changed or not to fit what he needs for the future. The few whirlpools that he could see were fairly large and powerful, but Beacrox, Hans, and On knew that he was going to do something as Olen’s dyed grey eyes held a glimmer in them as a small smirk gets painted across his face.
Beacrox could only hope for the best as well as Hans, who was distracted by the voices in his head and showing a more confused expression before returning to his normal look. This causes Olen to glance at Hans and gently tapping his leg with his own to get the older man’s attention.
“Hans-hyeong, is there something wrong?”
“Hm, I really want to check something out dongsaeng. Can I get two days to do it?”
Olen hums in thought, hopefully it was just looking at some places in the town nearby so he was more willing to let him go, but a part of him doesn’t want him to let his hyeong go. He wants his family by him all of the time so that he knows that they are alive and not massacred on the ground in front of him like in his past regressions, he wants to make sure that they will always be breathing even if he has to die. He swallows a large lump in his throat, the others in the carriage noticing how hard the decision to make is since they sat in silence for ten minutes until he nodded finally giving his approval. Hans lovingly smiles and gently places his left hand on Olen’s shoulder and lightly squeezes the stiff muscle making Olen look at him.
“Dongsaeng, I promise that I will come back. This hyeong of yours never breaks a promise.”
Olen calms down, feeling comforted by the gentleness and love that Hans is showing before Beacrox slowly butts into the touching moment.
“And this hyeong will make sure of that, after all I do have to protect my namdongsaeng.”
Olen’s smile grows before nodding as they continue their ride to the territory below them while making light conversation and with Beacrox changing seats with Ron to let him have a break from steering the carriage. Once they got down it was nearing dusk; making them rent some rooms at an Inn before they gather around Hans to wish him off on his trip with money and food. It was sad, but Hans knew that he needed to go and check this, the spirits said so. As Hans walked off into the town, to make it look like he was heading there, his smile falls into a more neutral face yet his grey eyes were cold as he soon follows where they were taking him, into the forest.
It was the next day, One day till Tunka will try to dive into the biggest whirlpool and grab the Sound of the Wind, and ancient power that is hidden under it. Olen doesn’t know what the trial is but he knows that it is there since he has seen Tunka go under and when he surfaced he talks about the power that he got, sadly Tunka was an idiot who he sided with in two of his past most recent regressions. Olen was hoping to scout the area around the whirlpools and plot out where to put the new ones. The day goes by uneventful, mainly worrying about Hans and playing with the children while feeding them snacks. Beacrox made sure to give them healthy snacks like dried fruits and nuts but also mixed in some sweets like cookies, however they are limited on how much sweets they can eat before meals and sleep.
The day passed slowly to Olen as he was waiting for it to be night so that he can gain the Sound of the Wind, of course with the help of the water elementals that live nearby, elementals are attracted to their own element so since the Ubarr territory is right next to the ocean that connects the Roan Kingdom to the Whipper Kingdom, there are of course a lot of water elementals around. In the Henituse territory there are a lot of earth elementals since the territory is surrounded by marble and earth. The North will have a rarer type of elemental, the ice or snow elemental; there are elementals for the base elements, however what others don’t know, even both races of Elves is that there are more than just the base elements but also for their different phases of matter.
Olen looks at a piece of paper that he wrote all of the different elementals that he met throughout his many, many lives. Olen, so far, has only seen five; earth, fire, water, air, and ice. He puts it back into his special bag, he has a feeling that he won’t need the many other pieces of paper that he wrote, holding all of the information that he had gathered through his regressions, much in this life time since there is already new information that he didn’t come across in the other lives. He goes to the window where the sun gently sets over the ocean painting the darkening sky with oranges and reds- it was dusk already.
His crimson hair appears, indicating that his necklace has ran out of mana. He lifts the lily closer before placing it on the table as Ron comes in with a tray of tea and treats, the children we rereading a book together on the bed letting Olen do some paper work for his plans.
“How have you been, son? Seems like I need to grab another stone from my bag. How about we stop the necklace when its night so that no one will see and it will save up it’s mana for the next day?”
“Yes, that would be good. Also father, I’m going to be heading out soon to grab something. It will help us a lot ok.”
“Yes, that will be for the best father.”
Olen walks over and takes the tray from Ron who just smiles and watches the children who runs over to him, Hong was patting his leg and asking for some cake with the black dragon flying around him with On patting his leg for her dried fruits and nuts. Olen smiles at this sight, it’s like they truly are a family and not just one that they stitched together the past few weeks. He pours two cups of tea, one for him and the other for Ron and takes a sip from one of the cups.
“Oh, father. I will be heading out tonight to gather something from the sea. I will only bring the dragon with me if he wants.”
The dragon frowns as he then floats over and puffs his chest out in front of Olen.
“Don’t just call me dragon, I will grant you the privilege of giving me a name, human!”
“Ho, very well, great and mighty one.”
The dragon puffed his chest out more and fluttered his wings before settling on the bed before On and Hong joined him. Ron takes the other cup and sips the warm and slightly sweet tea as he didn’t make any lemon tea since the children will drink with Olen. He hums and sets the cup and saucer on the table before sighing lightly and placing his hand on Olen’s right shoulder.
“Just be safe, son. Remember to drink your lemon tea before you go as well.”
He smirks lightly and leaves the room quickly as Olen frowns and silently complains to himself, however he knows that he secretly loves that forsaken tea but only because it reminds him of Ron. He shakes his head, getting rid of the stupid thoughts he just had and heads to the now pitch-dark window. The dragon flies over and lays on his shoulders as Olen puts on a scuba suit before wearing a hooded cloak, one that mages would wear, and leaves with the now invisible dragon through the window. The dragon casts flying magic on Olen as he heads to one of the largest and strongest of the whirlpools, he wants to get this ancient power first as it is on a timer because of Tunka. He sighs as he floats above the whirlpool, the violent crashing of the waves echoes throughout the dark night with only the waning moon that hangs over head.
He takes out a stone, it was the size of his palm with a rugged surface, the underside of the rock, which was so jagged that it lightly cut his hand making it slightly bleed, it had a simple rune: two mountains with a singular line connecting them; the top mountain has a diagonal line going up while the bottom mountain has the same line but going down; to the right of the mountains but crossing into the diagonal lines is one line that is like a triangle but without the line that connects the two sides together; there is another of the same half triangle but with the point to the left and only crossing the right faced triangle. It was a new formulated rune that he created while working on the large shield runic formula for the terrorist attack and he is very glad that he created it.
“Could you shield me and then wait for me at a cave nearby, great and mighty one?”
“Hm, just this once, weak yet strong human.”
He smiles as he casually tosses the rock into the center of the whirlpool which causes a medium scale explosion while the dragon’s wings were fluttering. The dragon had created a shield around them as he applies the scuba breather before he drops into the ice-cold night water which had calmed down with the explosion, of course getting lightly hurt but the blood washes away in the salty water. The dragon waited at the surface near a cave, where he was asked letting Olen go into the water and easily swim towards the starting point of the whirlpool, it was coming from a spinning top underneath a large boulder.
– You sons of bitches!
Olen pauses for a moment and looks at the top before continuing to et closer, seems like this person was someone who cursed a lot, not that he would mind he actually liked it when people would curse as it shows a bit of the more human side to the person.
– Why is it a sin to steal something that they sacrificed people to create? Especially when I was just going to return it to the people? You trash bastards! Why do bastards like you have such power?!
Olen listens to the top’s words as he takes out a carving tool that he hid in his scuba suit and carves a rune on it’s surface before hovering his hand over it as it glows golden and turns into dust. He picks up the top and places it into the bag that he brought with him, he didn’t get the Vitality of the Heart when he was in the capital, which was dumb on his part, so he will have to wait to take this power. The swims up and throws the now useless scuba breather into his bag, he will have to clean it out when he gets back to the inn but he will worry about that later.
The dragon was there waiting for him at the mouth of the cave, just like he asked, so he quickly swim over and climb onto the hard, rough, and sharp cave floor that smelt of damp air and of earth. He sighs before looking towards where the dragon should be but he was invisible, so something must be here. He takes a look around and notice a creature in a corner of the cave. It was fairly small, only the size of a small breed of dog that one could fit in a purse, however, its skin was deathly pale that held multiple mouths and hair across it’s back, you could see the spine and ribs of the monster as it devours something in that corner as the smell of blood saturates the air. He looks to his left as sees a terrified and dying man with long blue hair trembling while covering his mouth with one hand as the other presses part of his torn clothes against his injured leg. Olen looks back to the monster, since both the man and the monster seemed to have not noticed him yet, and looks at the corpse being devoured; it was of a mermaid who had lost the will to live as it stares in pain towards the ceiling. Olen frowns in disgust, the mermaid was still alive as the creature eats it, before thinking harder as only the sounds of the crunching of bones and pain filled groans fill the otherwise silent cave while the dragon lays on his shoulders, clearly frightened at the sight before talking in his mind.
‘H, human, what is that? I’ve never seen it before!’
He pats the dragon’s small and round head before taking out another stone, this one has a special rune on it: it has an open eye in the center of four twirling lines, the lines curve the same direction like a compass, and four arrows on each corner; inside the eye held a small circle of dried blood. This rune is special as it is able to record both audio and pictures in very high quality that can see everything, even what the eyes can’t see in this reality, however it is still a work in progress and has to use pressure from someone of the same bloodline as the creator. He takes a slow breath in and presses on the rune causing it to very faintly glow, alerting the blue-haired man to Olen who just places a finger over his lips letting the man relax slightly, before the stone starts to float into the air and record the whole cave; a strong and uneasy chill rolling over the whole cave, it was like a higher being was watching them all and recording ever little millimeter of their souls. The monster stops eating and looks at Olen, making the man flinch and hold onto Olen as the mermaid reaches out for help crying, before screeching loudly, causing the mermaid’s eyes to rupture, the pupil leaks into the iris causing almost a droplet of color in a glass of water effect, and running off into the darkness. The mermaid crawls painfully towards where she saw Olen last, her lower half completely eaten and torn off as green sickly blood flows from her.
Olen grabs the stone, covering the eye rune, making it stop recording and places it into his bag as the man uncovers his mouth and releases panicked breaths. Olen goes to the mermaid, who grabs onto his legs and cries pitifully, before looking deeper into the seemingly dead-end cave. He kneels and cups the poor mermaid’s face as she sobs before gently breaking her neck deciding that she has suffered enough. He takes out a small jar, about the size of the palm of his hand, and scoops up the water from the puddle next to her body, this water will put out any fire, even one caused by alchemy like in the Jungle, before putting it into his bag and grabs the body and takes it over to the man, which now that Olen can look at him closer can tell that he is a whale of some sort with how handsome he is, and sets the cadaver next to the man who glares at her and clutches his leg.
“Let me see your leg, sir. Maybe I can help you.”
The whale looks at Olen shakily before moving the cloth away from the bloodied and rotting leg. Olen frowns before picking up a pebble from the rocky floor and quickly carving a line with multiple lines around it and crushing the now brittle pebble making it turn into a little ball of light, which the man looks amazed at before taking in Olen’s appearance which made the older man slightly embarrassed. Olen chuckles and then looks closer at the leg: the skin was torn and rotting deep under the still connected skin, shown by the darker color under the pale cream skin tone; a dark green liquid seep out from the lacerations, most likely claw marks from the female mermaid, that was poison. Olen takes out a knife and looks at the man with a soft smile, trying to make him relax a bit more, as the man shakes lightly before trying to relax more.
“This will hurt and I’m sorry about it, but I need to open the rot to the air so that I can treat it properly. You can talk to me if that helps you.”
The man nods and takes a deep breath in as Olen cuts the dark areas, revealing the dark and rotten muscles and fatty tissues underneath before going to the sea water near by and scooping up some and putting it over the whale who breathes out and moves closer to the water, wanting to help at least a little bit. Olen hums before making light chat with the whale who happily responds to his savior.
“What is your name, sir? I can see that you are a whale so you don’t have to be afraid of me, I’m just a lowly human named Olen.”
“Yes, thank you for your help. My name? Just call me P, sir.”
The dragon stays on top of Olen’s head as the orangish brown haired man lifts up the corpse and lets its blood drip and roll into the wounds making the poison hiss and bubble. He smiles as the whale, P, lets out a thankful groan before Olen hands over the corpse to him, Olen didn’t want to be here any longer since it’s close to dawn and Ron would be upset if he doesn’t return soon. P looks between the corpse and Olen questionably before Olen chuckles and winks at the poor blushing whale, Olen obviously trying to manipulate the whale into finding him again, before standing up and heading towards the entrance of the cave ad waving towards the whale who watches almost hypnotized.
“When you want to meet again, P, I’ll be opening an Inn in this territory so find me there. Go back to your family and rest till we meet again.”
He dives back into the water, the dragon quickly flying into the air to escape the cold salty water before casting flight magic on Olen when he was far enough away from the cave. The dragon goes to Olen, him noticing that the dragon is not invisible anymore and smiling, before they head back to their room where the kittens jump into his arms happy that he was back. He places the bag down on the floor while the children gets placed on the bed as he goes to change and looks into his bag once he was done. The stone catches his eye making him grab it and place it on his desk and takes a seat frowning at the scene in the cave that goes through his mind as the children sit on his lap.
“Olen nya, what is that?”
On asks while eyeing the rune before tapping it gently as Olen caresses the kittens’ heads, Hong was slowly falling asleep from staying up too late, as the dragon sits on the desk in front of him frowning as well.
“It’s a stone that I made into a kind of recording tool. We will deal with it later and get some sleep. I wanted to at least clean out my bag before heading to bed so you three go ahead.”
“No, we want to sleep when you do!”
The dragon pouts cutely, his slightly chubby cheeks are puffed out, making Olen let out a gentle sigh and a small smile before picking up the three children and heading to the bed completely accepting defeat against the children. He lays then down, the dragon and On moves out of the way for Olen while Hong just flops where he was placed as Olen lets in and lets the two awake children cuddle close to him before pulling Hong close to his chest and relaxing happily before drifting off. The dragon was at his head while On was against his stomach as they all fully fall asleep letting dawn past by as Ron lets his third son and his children sleep in.
