You gasped as you looked downwards- seeing the vast views of the Akashi Kingdom. There were lush pastures and busy cities as well as sparkling lakes, and life was plentiful. However, the boy sitting in front of you noticed none of these things as he continued urging his griffin forward.

"Come on... please..." he kept murmuring under his breath.

Then you realized what the problem was. Akashi Seijuro's griffin was still young, though it was nimble and fast. His father's griffin, however, was fully grown. It was much quicker- and seems to be radiating an evil aura. It was a matter of time before they would catch up with you.

"Seijuro. I'm giving you one more chance."

There was no reply.

"Oh, I won't kill you. You're my only son, after all. But what about the girl? Do you want to see her die more painfully than she has to?"

There was no other way to describe it- Akashi's father was manipulating with his brain.

You could feel Seijuro hesitating.

He veered sharply to the left.

Then you fell.

Off the griffin.

Downwards to the far, far away ground.

You braced your eyes shut as you could feel air rising around you. Your lungs felt like they were going to explode. When you finally stopped falling you attempted to breathe in only to swallow-

...Water?

Desperately kicking to the surface you realized you were in one of the lakes you saw earlier. Akashi had dropped you on purpose, knowing that you would land in water.

'But what about him?'

Soaking wet and cold, you quickly came out of the water and stared at the sky. The larger griffin was advancing towards Akashi's. Using its long, wicked talons, it grasped the smaller griffin's wings and carried it back to the direction of the palace, Akashi still on its back.

'He- he sacrificed himself for me....' you realized. Just thinking about what might happen to Seijuro made you tremble in fear. Some things were worse than death.

The sun was high in the sky and you still sat next to the lake. Your clothes and hair was almost dry, but you didn't see the use in moving. You were still thinking about Seijuro. Was he regretting saving you?

"Excuse me," a voice spoke behind you. Turning around you saw a boy with green hair and emerald eyes.

"Do you know which direction I need to go to get to the Akashi Palace?"

You crinkled your nose in the mention of the terrible place, but figured it was polite only to answer.

"Um.. I'm not from around here you see..."

"Where are you from, then?"

Tears began to well up into your eyes again. The green haired boy looked panicked like he didn't know what to do. As he awkwardly tried to comfort you, you repeated the question at him.

"I'm from the Shutoku village," he answered.

"and my name is Midorima Shintarou."

"Why on earth would you want to go to the Akashi Palace?" you asked.

Midorima seemed startled at the question.

"My friend lives there. You probably know him- his name is Akashi Seijuro. Anyways, he sent me a message that he needs my help." the boy chuckled.

"And it's not often when Akashi asks for help, so I figured I have to come as quickly as I could."

A chill ran up your spine.

"When was this message sent?" you asked.

"Hm? Around 3 days ago."

"Is that the amount of time it takes to get here from Shotoku?"

"Yeah, I guess."

You stood up abruptly.

"In that case, head northwest."

'If Akashi asked Midorima for help 3 days ago... that means he knew he would be caught while rescuing me.'
