As the music in the ballroom slowed momentarily, Cole walked up and took my elbow, “We need talk,” he whispered, leaned down to my arm.
Suddenly alert, I solemnly followed him into a side room.
He hesitated, “You might want to sit down.”
Confused, I sank down onto a sofa, “What’s going on?” I searched Cole’s face for any tell as to what was happening.
He sighed, “Orano… he, he asked Vania to join the team.”
I was stunned. Life seemed to flash before my eyes, I was completely numb.
I just sat there, and I didn’t even realize I was crying until I felt a tear drip onto my dress.
Cole eased down next to me, wrapping me in his strong embrace.
“I’ll go talk to him.”
I rose, resolute, “I’ll come,” I spoke, leveling my voice and swiping the tears from my eyes.
Cole led me back onto the dance floor, searching for Orano.
“Over there,” I pointed to where the purple ninja was standing with Vania close by.
We made our way through the crowd, not without difficulty.“Orano, we must speak with you. Privately,” Cole called to Orano. Orano glanced at Vania before walking over towards us.
“What’s up?”
“Don’t ‘what’s up’ me,” I snapped.
“Hey,” Cole covered my mouth with his hand before turning to Orano, “That was uncalled for you to invite Vania to join the team without even thinking to confer with any of us.”
“What about her,” Orano pointed at me, “she just kinda joined.
“We all had an idea of what was going on. It was mostly Lloyd and Master Wu, but the rest of us had been clued in. Did you even say a word to Lloyd about this?” Cole asked. He voice was even and clear, but I could sense a sort of rage bubbling just below the surface.
