Eisa woke on her own the next morning to find Loki awake and sitting up, fully dressed, beside her on the bed.
"Good morning," she stretched and reached out to him. "You didn't wake me."
"You need your rest." Loki leaned over and kissed her good morning but pulled away when she tried to deepen the kiss.
"Won't you come back to bed?" The hurt was evident on her face.
"No, I just wanted to check on you before I sent for breakfast. How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine." She sat up slowly. "I feel perfectly fine."
"Alright. Good." Loki fiddled with his wedding band nervously, "I will go send for your breakfast."
"Wait, Loki... I'm not hungry. Just wait." She didn't want him to leave her side. "Come join me in the shower."
"I've been up for a while. I've had my shower this morning."
"Oh... Well, that has never stopped you before." She snuggled closer to him.
"No, but not today."
"Oh," she pulled back slightly, "Okay."
He stood, "Look, Eisa, I need some time. I need time to process this news. I need time to think. I cannot be expected to just carry on like nothing has changed."
"Right. You are right. I am sorry, Loki. I truly am. I wish it hadn't happened like this. I know your fears about becoming a father."
"Yet here we are. I'm being forced into another situation where I have been given no choice."
She choked back tears and turned to look away from him, "Like loving me?"
"Dove..."
She shook her head, "I can see it now. How could I have been so stupid? A stupid girl lost in her own stupid fantasy."
Her tears were thick and falling from her cheeks to her soft nightgown below. "You did not choose me. I deluded myself into believing you could love me."
"You know I love you. Stop this."
"Is it love? Or were you bored?"
"That is not fair. You know I tried my best to prevent this."
"That furthers my point. You didn't want me. We were locked behind closed doors and I wore you down. You didn't fall in love with me, you... you fell out of hate of me. There is a difference."
"You are not making sense." He watched as she climbed out of the bed and walked to stand in front of him.
"You have gotten used to me and confused it as love."
"That is not true. I have killed for you!"
"For me? Or for you? You've recounted the story many times. The thrill of the fight, the interrogations..."
"You don't know what you are talking about. Your hormones are affecting your reasoning."
She wiped the tears from her face, "So let me ask you a question. Do not answer me out loud, just answer in your mind."
He crossed his arms over his chest and waited for her to continue, "If the King walked through those doors and removed your cuff today, what would you do?"
Get as far away from this palace as possible. He pictured himself traveling the Nine.
"Now," her voice broke, "where was I in that scenario?"
Loki scoffed and shook his head, "That proves nothing." He walked to the window and stared out at the city.
"I wasn't by your side? You and I weren't together?"
