A/N: I might rewrite this whole story bc idk where i was going w it before lol

The terrible storm that plagued the visitors and residents of Jaya Island had finally cleared up, and the beautiful greenery of the spring island was finally shining through. All around the town, lots of pirate groups chattered in bars and drank booze cheerfully. With no marines or navy jurisdiction, Jaya was an ideal area for pirates to wander about.

Raye found herself in one of those pubs, sipping away at whatever they happened to have in stock. These places were often drank dry, so finding alcohol was harder than it seemed in this area. Usually the big-shot pirates took loads of it with them as well. Speaking of big-shots, she had heard talks of one of Donquixote Doflamingo, the warlord's, underlings, Bellamy, was currently at the island. However, he wasn't who she was trying to find. She had caught wind of another infamous pirate around these parts, and she wanted to take a look for herself before leaving for the New World.

She had been hanging around Jaya for a few days, disguised well as a common bargirl most of the time, because drunk men loved to talk away to pretty women. It's not that she would have a hard time tracking him down or anything, it's just that she didn't want to raise any suspicion. The man was cunning, but so was she. She was fairly certain the crew she was hunting for hadn't noticed her yet. If they did, they would've left immediately. Yes, the man was an idiot, but he also stood no chance against her at his current level. Once he figured out she was here, he would flee.

Her goal wasn't to initiate a fight, rather she didn't feel like fighting him at all. From what she gathered from Ace, the reason he was being tracked down by the 2nd Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates was because he killed a crew mate, who also happened to be a commander, and ate his devil fruit, the Yami Yami no Mi (Dark Dark Fruit). She had heard of this devil fruit before, it was a logia type, and quite strong. Although she didn't like the idea of him having this power, she had to admit it suited him well.

Being absorbed in her thoughts didn't make her lower her guard at all. Raye noticed the person she was looking for happened to find her first. She chugged the rest of her drink, then sighed, pleased with the favorable outcome. "Wow, it's certainly been a long time since I've been here." She recalled a grenade and a boiling pot of oden. "It's such a shame it had to be because of you, Blackbeard Teach."

It had been weeks since Raye first used her devil fruit, but she had no luck so far with progression. She hadn't gotten into any trouble, either, so she mused on whether or not to start a fight. After all, only in life or death situations could she truly activate her full potential. She remembered her vice-captain telling her something along those lines, and it had stuck with her.

She twirled a small handgun she had picked off of some lousy pirate a few days prior. She would've preferred a short distance weapon, only because she wanted to try her hand in close-combat with the devil fruit. Unfortunately, she was yet to find a decent dagger or knife. A sword was just unrealistic without money. She was curious if her power was literally just blasts, or if it was something more.

Raye decided she needed to release some stress, so she went to a bar. This time, though, she just wanted to find someone to talk to. Even a bit of small talk will help connect her with the reality she hadn't fully accepted yet. She found a crowded pub and walked in, dressed up a bit. She wanted to find a friend, but realistically she'd just end up robbing a few pirates. It was hard to find real friends in the pirate world, and with thousands of people taking the seas to find the hidden treasure, there were even less people to trust.
