Chapter 5 - The Battle of Trost

Year 850

Wall Rose - Trost District

Y/N POV

The city streets have erupted into chaos. As my team and I fly to the supply depot for orders, I look down and see people running for their lives. Despite all the drills and everything we had practiced for this day. The people were still just as chaotic as they were five years ago.

Y/N 'All of that talk from the higher-ups about these drills working and look at what happened, nothing changed.'

As we're zipping through the streets, I feel a presence come up next to me. I look to see Ymir looking at me.

Ymir "Hey, don't be losing your nerves now. I need you to get my Krista and me out of here." She smiled slightly, but I could tell she was nervous and would never admit it.

Y/N "Don't worry, we're all getting out of this alive. I'll make sure of it." I knew I wasn't that strong, but I needed to try. There is no room for me to fail here.

We all landed at the depot to see the other recruits and Garrison Regiment troops preparing for the oncoming battle. Looking around I see the higher-ups of the Garrison standing on the stage.

Garrison Soldier "Listen up! You cadets are fully trained and graduated now! So you will be expected to participate in this operation!" There was a collectivized fear among the cadets. Their first day out of boot camp and now they're fighting for the survival of humanity. I could feel how tense the air was. I see Captain Kitz walk onto the platform.

Captain Kitz "Now! Remember your training! You will all split into your individual squads! The vanguard will be the first line of defense, held by the Garrison! The Support will be the cadets under Garrison's command! The rearguard will be the elites of the Garrison, aiding in the evacuation! There has been word that the Advance squad has been eliminated! The outer gate was destroyed! It is only a matter of time before the Armored Titan shows itself to destroy the inner gate!"

There were murmurs throughout the cadets, they were fearful.

Y/N 'This guy is going to get more people killed. He better not be as much of a coward as I think he is.'

Captain Kitz "I'm sure you all know that desertion is a capital offense! Punishable by death!"

Y/N *Sigh*'Yep, he's gonna get us all killed.' I looked over at my friends, I could see some were fearful but others were determined to fight.

I walk over to the gas pump and fill my tanks. I see Armin next to me, his hands shaking quite a bit. I reach over and put a hand on his shoulder. He looks up at me.

Y/N "Armin, you need to steady yourself. Youre the smartest one here, we're going to need you thinking straight if we want to survive this."

Armin "Y/N... but we still haven't figured out a way to close off the hole in the wall. that boulder was the only way to do it and we don't have the engineering to move it." He seemed calmer now, still not enough to think straight but it'll do.

Y/N "Then we will find another way. We always do. But listen to me when I say this. None of us are going to die. I'll make sure of that." This seemed to help him. I could see his hand stop shaking.

Armin "Thank you Y/N. Just remember, don't get yourself killed in the process." I laughed at this. "Y/N... I'm serious, there are people here who do care a lot about you. So you need to come back for them okay?" I looked at him, thinking about this. He did have a point, still though, if the people I care for live then I'll be okay.

Y/N "Don't worry so much about me. Remember that I was top of our class for a reason." He seemed to chuckle at this.

Armin "Yeah, you are the strongest after all." A Garrison soldier comes up to us, his eyes showing panic.
