Chapter 10 - Preparations

Year 850

Inner Wall Rose

~~3rd POV~~

The cool spring morning wind blew through the forests of Wall Rose. Birds could be heard chirping their morning songs. The sounds are carried through the forest into a small clearing. A pond sits in the center of the clearing, its calm surface reflecting the bright sun above. Small ripples are seen as a lone horse drinks from the water. Its pure black hair shines in the sunlight.

A boy is seen sitting beneath a flowering tree a few meters away. He faces the large trunk of the tree, a small shrine sits between the two. The boy's long hair blows with the wind as he sits in silence, praying before the shrine. The boy opens his E/C eyes and says a short phrase.

Y/N: "Nembutsu."

Y/N bows before the shrine before he gets up and walks towards his horse. As he approaches, the horse seems to ease itself, its tail flicks a few times in excitement.

Y/N: "Come on now Hoshi, we should be getting back. I'm sure Captain Levi needs me to clean something that Eren missed." He says as he pats the horse's neck, a small smile present on the boy's face

Hoshi snorts at Y/N's words, almost as if the horse understood what he said. Y/N gets onto Hoshi's saddle and looks at the shrine once more.

Y/N: "See you next time Grandpa."

Y/N rides off, his horse taking him down a small dirt path through the forest. Luckily, the journey wasn't long as the grave was close to the Survey Corps Headquarters. On his ride, Y/N began to think about his time with the Survey Corps so far.

Since the Battle of Trost, he has been with the Levi Squad of the Survey Corps and helps keep an eye on Eren. However, it's not all the grandeur that Eren made it seem throughout the years of the Cadet Corps. It's been primarily cleaning an old castle. And for Y/N, it's been double that because he has to clean up after Eren fails to meet the standards of Captain Levi.

There was also the experiments that were done on Eren. Much to the disbelief of Y/N, they weren't actually doing any combat training involving Eren's Titan. It was just an attempt to get Eren to transform... once... which he couldn't even do. And when he questioned the decision to not try and involve the titan in combat training, Levi simply said to trust Commander Erwin. It made Y/N a bit nervous, just what type of person was leading the Scouts?

As Y/N approached the castle, there was a bit more activity than usual, which piqued his interest.

Y/N: 'Huh. I wonder what all that's about.' he thought as he rode through the entrance of the castle walls.

As he approached the stables he found the source of the increased activity. The new recruits had finally arrived at headquarters. Y/N began to smile as he saw that a lot of his friends had actually joined up, despite what they had all gone through in Trost. Though before he could speak up, the scout they were with, Ness, screamed out as his horse attempted to eat his, already thin, hair.

Ness: "Hey, wait! You dolt! Stop, Shallot! Hey! Someone stop her! Hey!"

Y/N sighs as he puts his horse up and approaches Ness.

Y/N: "You should stop screaming. It's making her nervous." He held out a large clump of hay to the horse, which she gladly took. "You should carry food with you if you want to keep your hair."

Ness: "Ah, thanks Y/N." He goes to fix his bandana but finds that the horse has taken it off his head. "Shit, hey can you watch the newbies while I get a new bandana?" Y/N chuckles a bit.
