Friends in Bloom

Ever since he was little, Endurian was very lonely. His peers had always steered clear of him due to his stench, or because of the misconception that he was cold and rude. Every time he made an attempt to make a friend, they would try to avoid him and his attempt would fail. Even when he just went outside to run a simple errand, he could hear other plants sneering at him, mocking his smell or his demeanor. He was used to it. Originally, he would lose his temper and blow up on people he heard talking behind his back, but he soon realized that got him nowhere, so he just took the teasing. It was hard to not let it get to him, but he had no choice.

This was another day where he just wanted to be left at peace as he went to buy a snack at a convenience store. A few people backed away a little, as he expected. He didn't care, he just wanted some food.

But as he was picking out a snack, someone walked up to him. He noticed them as Dandelion. He'd seen Dandelion around, but he never really talked about him behind his back, and he seemed eager to talk to him. As peculiar as Endurian thought it was that someone was just walking up to him after years of being lonely, he greeted Dandelion with "Uh.. hey."

"Hey! You always seem so... lonely. You alright?" Dandelion asked.

"I'm used to it." Endurian said bluntly.

"Well, I quite frankly think you need a friend. Why don't I introduce you to a few people?" Dandelion replied, as straight-forward as Endurian's previous answer.

"...Sure," Endurian sighed as he agreed, although reluctantly so, "just let me finish getting my stuff."

When Endurian was finished buying what he wanted, Dandelion offered to give Endurian a ride, and he accepted. When they got to his house, his roommates were sitting on the couch watching something on TV. When they heard the front door open, they briefly paused to check the door.

"Dandelion, who's that?" One of the two roommates, Electrici-tea, asked, causing the second roommate, Bombegranate, to turn and look as well.

"My new friend!" Dandelion said excitedly, followed by a much less enthusiastic wave from Endurian. After Endurian's admittedly awkward greeting, Dandelion sat down on the couch with Bombegranate and Electrici-tea, while Endurian stood next to the couch.

After a few moments of silence, Electrici-tea was the first to speak; "So... what's your name? Never told us." he asked, turning his body to face Endurian.

"Endurian." said Endurian, still with his characterized straight-forwardness. "Ah. Hi, Endurian!" Electrici-tea replied, unpausing the TV afterwards.

As Endurian watched the show with the other three, it got him thinking: had he actually made a few friends? Would he finally be able to fit into society? Over time, he started to get more comfortable with them, and he thought he finally found some plants to confide in. However, things would soon sour between him and the other three.
