_____McDonald's. What a lovely memory from my childhood. Everything about the memory is perfect. First year of middle school, the indoor playground, always ordering the same things (ten piece, medium fry, extra ketchup, Dr. Pepper, and an Oreo McFlurry), and most importantly: the triplets.
That's where we had met, actually. Chris and I met behind the big red slide in the indoor playground. We talked for ages about stupid things, like our fear of Ronald McDonald and how the apple pies weren't as good as people said they were.
After a while, he had introduced me to his triplet brothers, Nick and Matt. We hit it off instantly. But the time came, and we had to go home. Nick and I threw a fit and convinced our parents to let us hangout more. And they listened. They exchanged numbers, and we'd all been inseparable since.
_____
"Come on, Chris!" Nick yells from downstairs.
"I'm coming, Jesus." He shouts back.
"He takes... Fucking forever. Only God know's what the fuck he does up there that takes so damn long." Nick complains to me, causing me to laugh.
"I don't know how you guys do it." I giggle as Chris comes stumbling downstairs.
"Are you ready to go now?" Matt asks with a hint of annoyance in his voice.
"Yeah," he looks over at me and flashes me a cheesy smile, "let's go."
I roll my eyes and grin at his stupid smile. Chris and I had always been best friends. Always. Never anything less, never anything more. Best friends. But, I guess you can say we kinda have a thing for each other. And I guess you can say I kinda always had a thing for him. The reason why we're not dating is because, well, I'm scared. And he doesn't wanna fuck up. It's easier for the two of us to stay strictly just as friends.
_____
"What's everyone's order?" Matt asks as we all sit in the booth.
"What I always get," I reply, it's been the same ever since we were little.
"Ten piece and a Dr. Pepper." Chris says as he opens his phone and begins to scroll.
"And extra ketchup." Chris adds.
"What?" Matt looks up from his phone, I'm assuming he wrote our orders down in his notes.
"(Y/N) always orders extra ketchup as well." Chris shrugs.
Matt and Nick exchange looks and look back at Chris. "Alrighty then." Matt stands up and straightens out his clothes. Walking up to the cashier and begins talking to dude.
_____
"No! You were running away from Nate then you ran into that counter. I didn't push you, Matt!" Nick exclaims through a mouth full of food.
"You're a DEAD liar. You shoved me into the kitchen counter, (Y/n) was there. And she's gonna vouch for it. Right (Y/n)? "
I look up at Matt. "Huh?"
"Nevermind." He sighs. "I'm just gonna be right anyways."
Nick scoffs and smiles at the memory of our childhood.
"(Y/n). We should go to the indoor playground!" Chris shouts when he notices it behind me.
"Hu- Oh my gosh, absolutely!" I quickly get up and run over to the door with Chris following me.
_____
"Aren't you guys too old to be playing in here?" Some little girl with pigtails asks Chris and I. She was holding an iPhone and what looked to be a sucker.
"Aren't you too young to own a phone, kid? Pipe down n' grow up before you cone talkin' to us like that." Chris snaps back.
"Christopher Owen!" A shocked smile crosses my face and I slap him across the neck.
The blonde girl begins to wail, hot tears fall down her checks and she runs to her mom. Her mom gives the little girl a concerned look as she points over at us.
"Fuck." Chris says with a smile under his breath. He grabs my wrist and we run for it. We sprint through a crowd of kids and make our way behind the big red slide, where everything started. Our friendship. My feelings.
"Hopefully that little girl and her mother don't find us." I sigh and take a seat beside Chris.
"Oh, they'll be fine. Don't stress it."
There's silence. Not awkward silence, but comfortable silence. To ease the moment, I rest my head on Chris' shoulder and close my eyes.
"Tired?" He asks.
"Oh yeah. Ten nuggets, fries, and ice cream really fills one's stomach and tires them out." I reply with a sarcastic tone.
"Oh yeah?" Chris laughs.
Chris lays his head on top of mine and we sit like this for a while. He then picks up his head and wraps his arm around me.
"I-uh.. The coast might be clear. I'm gonna go check." I gently push away from him and stand up.
"Wait, (Y/n)..." Chris stands with me and grabs my wrist to prevent me from leaving.
"Hm?"
Chris hesitates, but he slowly leans in closer to me. Our faces close enough to where if I were to slightly move a muscle our lips would touch.
"I'm tired of avoiding this." He whispers.
I wrap my hands around his neck and close the gap between us. Our lips collide, and it felt like heaven. Nothing I'd ever expect. His lips were so soft. His hands traveled down to my waist as he pulled me into him closer. This kiss wasn't heated, nor was it middle school like. It was perfect. It was my perfect first kiss.
We pull apart to catch our breath. I smile against him as he gives me one more peck on the lips.
"I've been waiting to do that since we were twelve years old." Chris laughs.
"Unfortunately, same here." I chuckle and wrap my arms around him and pull him into a hug. He hugs back and lays his chin on my head.
"So!" Chris and I jump at hearing an old shavvy voice, "you two were being mean to my six year old daughter?"
Chris and I exchange looks, I laugh and say, "no ma'am. You daughter was making very disrespectful remarks and comments to us, so we simply told her off. No bad things, we promise." I shrug my shoulders and give the lady a smile. She sighs and shakes her head while walking away.
_____
"What took you guys so long?" Matt asks as we walk out the double doors of the nostalgic restaurant.
"Oh," Chris grins remembering the special moment we shared, "we got yelled at by an old lady."
"That's it?" Nick questions.
"Pretty much." I reply back smiling from ear to ear.
"What is up with you two?" Matt asks unlocking the van.
"I'll tell you when we get home." I say fiddling with my bracelet.
"Fine." Nick huffs.
"We made out." Chris blurts.
"Thats SO exaggerated!" I shout.
"What?!" Nick and Matt exclaim in unison.
"C'mon, it's not a big deal!" Chris laughs and hooks his phone up to the Bluetooth.
"About time." Matt smile and begins to drive.
