THE room was stuffy and cold, I tugged my nightgown closer to me as I waited for Mother to arrive. My brothers, Jacaerys and Lucerys were playing with the toy dragons as I sat next to Ser Harwin Strong, my mother's guard. I quietly read a book as he stood by, waiting for Mother to return.
"How long does it take to have a babe?" Lucerys asked, I blinked as Ser Hariwn seemed to choke on his words.
"Luke, watch you words! Thats not appropriate!" I scolded him, Jacaerys rolled his eyes as I sat back, continuing my book. Ser Harwin seemed to calm down and relaxed at that.
My head flung up as the door creaked open, Mother and Father came in with the babe in hand, I put my book down as she turned to look at us with a smile, Jace and Luke immediately got up as I took my time.
"Mother, look look!" Jace exclaimed, he ran to the hot pot sitting in coal as me and Luke came over. He opened the pot and revealed the egg inside of it, Mother smiled fondly at us.
"We picked an egg for the babe, so he could also have one." Luke said, Mother placed her hand ontop of my head and ruffled the brown locks as I smiled.
"I let Luke pick." Luke muttered a thank you as Mother laughed.
"Really, that's great." Ser Harwin held his arm out to her as she sat down on her couch. Father was too entranced by the babe. I tuned out what they said but soon I was being pushed out with the boys to go dragon training.
We walked to the dragonpit as Luke stood somewhat behind me while Jace led the way. Aegon and Aemond were both already there waiting when we came up, Aegon snickered at the sight of me and I let out a sigh.
"What is so funny, Aegon? Do tell." I said, he turned to face me with a smirk.
"I don't even know why you here? Do you even have a dragon?" He asked, he hadn't been showing up as much since he was drowning himself in his cups.
"I do, so you wouldn't mind me going first, would you?" He shook his head and held his arm out. I groaned and stepped up, the dragon tamers led Raindancer up to me.
Raindancer was a beautiful she-dragon, with scales of dark blue and grey, eyes of black to match. She is frequently known as "The Sea Serpent" due to her ability to go under water, I smiled when she came up, immediately letting out soft growls and shrieks.
"Lykirī Raindancer, Rȳbās." I said, she stood idly before listening and lowering her body slightly. I turned to the maester as he nodded.
"Drakarys, Raindancer." She tilted her head before turning to the goat and opening her mouth, a ball of flames shot out and burned the goat, she shrieked before stepping closer and rubbing her snout on me. She reluctantly left and I turned around.
"That good enough for you, Aegon?" I asked, a mocking tone in my voice, he glared at me but didn't say anything.
Luke did well and so did Jace, I completely ignored Aegon as I didn't have such interest in him. I wandered off after the training was done, walking towards the garden and sitting next to the white tree with red leaves.
Something about this tree just fascinated me, the red, bold leaves that seemed to never die out, the white oak of the tree. It was all fascinating, a twig snapped behind me and o swiveled my head to look.
"Who's there?" I asked, a figure peeked put from behind a tree.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I saw you here and thought you were lonely." A girl with ginger hair, she looked around the same age as me with chubby cheeks and bornw eyes.
"No, just relaxing. May I ask what your name is?" I said, she came further and stood in front of me, the light blue dress with flower embroidery swayed at her feet.
"Catelyn, Catelyn Arryn! You are Daena Velaryon, yes?" She responded, I nodded and she pointed the seat next to me and I scooted over.
"Whats an Arryn doing in Kingslanding?" I asked, she looked over at me.
"Mother is here for a meeting with the King Viserys, she told to me to explore and I found you!" She said, I smiled at her and she stared at my hair.
"Would you like to braid it? Mother usually does it but she's in the council." She nodded with such excitement. I turned and she went to putting intricate braids in.
We sat in peace together, giggling like crazy over simple things while we took turns braiding each other's hair. Despite her short hair, I made it work with the tiny braids j knew how to do. We giggled some more before a guard came with father.
"Come Daena, we're leaving." He said, I frowned but Catelyn shook her head.
"Mother must be worried sick about me, I shall go as well. I hope to see you soon again, Daena." I smiled at her before we stood and walked holding hands as we went to go to our mothers.
I waved bye from the carriage as Catelyn waved back, I didn't know when I would see her again, I just hope it would be soon. I felt weird leaving Raindancer in the dragonpit, I hoped nothing bad would happen to her. Mother ran her fingers through my hair as she smiled.
"Did you make a new friend?" I happily nodded, she sighed fondly.
"Her name is Catelyn Arryn, I hope to see her again." I said, she nodded and held onto Joffery tighter.
Looking out the carriage window, I watched as the air turned damp and the wind grew cold and gray. We approached a castle and I was the first out, Mother tailing behind me.
"Dragonstone." She hummed in response.
The air smelt of dragons and death but all I could think of was Raindancer.
"Wait for me, my serpent."
