Tamil cinema la eppo thirupi oru alaipayuthey, Nanban, Anniyan ext paddam varum?
Recently I have seen many Tamil movies and somehow I feel like they are all missing something. Now don't get me wrong there were some great films like Vikram, master, Thiruchitrambalam, soorarai pottru. But I feel like directors now are to focus on the mass, action genres. And it made me think, are Tamil directors trying too hard to become another rajamouli?
Yes RRR, KGF, and Pushpa did outstandingly well worldwide...and the Telugu and Kannada industry seem to be at their peak right now so what is Tamil cinema doing wrong? why are we not getting a worldwide hit like kgf?
1- are we relying too much on big stars, like Vijay, Rajini, and Ajith? recently beast, valimai, annathe were big flops yet the audience still celebrates these actors regardless and puts them on a pedestal and this restricts them from doing many genres...like I would love to see Vijay or Ajith in a rom-com again. For example, Kantara did exceptionally well worldwide, without a big director or actor.
2- Not relatable for other languages? A film like ponniyan Selvan deserved a bigger Hit but it wasn't relatable enough like bahubali and hence the film only did well in Tamilnadu.
3- Not welcoming enough? After lift and dada, I was expecting kavin to get a better position in the industry. Its time we encourage more new artists. Like kishen das from mnmn, ashwin kumar from sembi, darshan from kanaa, reba john from fir and bigil. There are so many talented artists yet we leave to watch their film on an ott platform.
4- need actors to leave their comfort zone? How many of you want a Vetrimaran and sivakarthikeyan combo? GVM and Vijay? Pa Ranjith and kamal? Vetrimaran and karthi? Cuz im desperate for more unusual combos and some actors need to step out from the commercial zone.
5- film promotions are highly dependent on music? Without a hit song being released from a film, the film doesn't get a big reach. For example, a film like Nachatiram Nagirgadhu didn't get a good response because not many people knew that the film had been released.
