I was wrong.

"Hey there, minty." The Latina girl spoke to me, placing a hand on my chair. I turned red as I caught a whiff of her pure vanilla perfume.

"Don't call me that, Noceda," I grumbled, hoping my red face came off as anger. But as soon as I calmed down, I turned to see the best shit-eating grin in my whole existence. Not even Edric could pull that off.

"What's wrong, can't handle basic small talk?" she taunted, turning her head forward and then back towards me. "I'll have you know-" Her finger suddenly pressed against my upper lip, silencing me. "Ever heard of shutting your own trap? Yeah, interesting," she said sarcastically, before letting out a forced but genuine laugh.

"How about we-" she started to speak but was quickly cut off by a grey-haired kid with horns. "Hey, newbie, shut yourself. Some of us actually want to graduate," he snapped.

"Whatever, bookworm," Lucia retorted before turning back to face the lesson. I tried my best to focus, but my body tensed up like crazy. "Amelia, you can't fall in love. It's just like those kindergarten crushes, fake. I hope..." I thought to myself.

As I was about to leave, she handed me a piece of paper with her number on it. "It's my number, minty. Text me. I'm amazing," she said, flashing me another grin. I crumpled up the paper in my palm and walked out, holding back any blush on my face.

"Number?! Already?!" I thought as I typed it into my phone. I quickly shut off my phone, saving her contact as "Noceda😒" before heading off to the cafeteria to eat some sort of sandwich that they put on my plate.

| Lucia POV |

I looked around the brightly lit cafeteria, taking in the fixed furniture and pristine environment. It was a far cry from Glandus, where everything was broken and the lights were dim. I knew I have to get used to this new setting.

As I scanned the room, I spotted a table with two people - a green-haired girl with a small braid and a younger boy with dark black hair. I walked over and asked, "Hey, mind if I sit here? It's the most welcoming table without angry faces." I scratched the back of my neck, nervously looking between them.

"Sure... uh..." the little boy spoke up. "Lucia, Lucia Noceda," I introduced himself. I give them a grin, sitting down in front of them.

"Oh, hey, I'm Willow! And this is Gus," the green-haired girl said, pointing to herself and then to the boy. "Why is he so... so..."

"Young?" Willow finished my sentence. "Yeah, he skipped a few grades."

"Because I'm just SOoOoO smart! Eh?" Gus bragged, puffing up his chest.

I chuckled at his enthusiasm before turning my attention to the food on my tray. "Anyway, what's up with the grub? It literally looks like bird remains."

"It's the special dish... 'Bumps Delights & Yummies.' Yeah, it's yummy alright, sure," Willow joked. I laughed along with her as I checked my phone under the table, trying to be discreet while the two talked.

Unknown |: hey, this you Noceda?

Noceda😒 |: Mmm, okay then. bye bye blight.

Minty🎶 |: what the hell Noceda Im not a barbecue.

Noceda😒 |: honest mistake shutup

I giggled at the texts on my phone, but quickly shut it off as I noticed the other two staring at me with blank expressions. Suddenly, I jumped out of my seat and gasped for air, startling everyone in the cafeteria. "WHAT THE HOLY JESUS FU-," I started, waving my hand in the air in embarrassment. "Sorry, I guess." I sat back down and nervously glanced at my phone. "Who is the lucky one?" Gus asked, pointing at my phone.

"No, not 'Lucky One.' It's a... uh..." I trailed off, suddenly realizing that I wasn't sure what to call our relationship. Were we friends? Frenemies? "Friends?" I finally settled on.

"With benefits?" Gus suggested with a mischievous grin.

"No, definitely no benefits," I replied with a shake of my head.

"Awww," they both pouted. "Tell us who at least!" Willow grumbled, crossing her arms.

"Amelia Blight," I said, watching as their jaws dropped and their food fell from their mouths.

"You mean... A-Amelia, A-M-E-L-I-A B-L-I-G-H-T?!" Willow stared at me, leaning forward.

"Yeah... That one," I confirmed, starting to feel a shiver run down my spine. What was wrong with her? Sure, she was cocky and sassy, but what else?

"Mate, that's a Blight! You'll be dead if Old-alia finds out!" Gus shrieked, slamming his hands on the table.

"Old-alia...? You mean Odalia Blight...?" I asked, even more confused than before.

"Yeah, it's just a nickname we use. But seriously, keep clear of her. One wrong move and whoop! You're standing at your own grave," Willow warned, looking like she was giving me a lecture. "And also, next time you get involved with someone dangerous, I'm not warning you, love." (NOT WILUZ)

"Alright... then," I replied, feeling a sense of unease settle in my stomach. This was not going to be easy.

It's nothing bad, right?
