⚠️Chapter Warnings⚠️
- death -
- death by guns -
- death by hanging -"Is this like...a weird rendition of Wonderland?" You spoke up, confused and frightened.
It was so empty suddenly, how? You were just crammed against the bodies of others and suddenly they're all gone in a second??
"I honestly might have to say that it's something far worse..." Chishiya replied.
"I...I guess we should look for people?"
Chishiya stayed silent while looking around. You decided to just head off and look for people. You popped your head into every shop, for any sign of human life.
You eventually decided to give up and go back to Chishiya.
"What do we do??"
"I'm not sure, Y/n, but just trust me, I'll figure it out..."
You nodded and took a seat on a ledge waiting for an answer, to everything.
A couple hours went by before Chishiya decided you two would go into the nearby mall and camp there, after all everything was of no use with no power.
You both found a mattress shop. You excitedly smiled like a kid as you realized you could do anything with the things around you, like jumping on a bed.
You ran over to one and tested its bounciness, satisfied, you stood up and began jumping. You giggled at the fun you were experiencing after being put in this situation.
"Dammit, Y/n, get down from there. How old are you??? Too old to be jumping around like a child!"
"Oh come on Chish, when was the last time you jumped on a bed?"
"Nev-"
"June 14, 2005, you were 10 and I was 7, we had a slumber party at my place and decided it might be a little fun to break the rules. Of course, we were punished after getting caught, but it was fun wasn't it?"
Chishiya gave you a slightly surprised look, his brows going up ever so slightly.
"Great memory you have there Y/n. Now, please get down, it's getting late and you know you shouldn't stay up too late especially after a day like today."
You stop jumping and give him a pout before shrugging and getting off. Instead you ran around feeling the different beds to find the comfiest.
Were you childish? Yeah some would see it as so. You thought of it as romanticizing life. You had a heart defect after all, narrowly escaping death inspired you to appreciate and get the most out of life. You were lucky to be given the chance so you thought you needed to take advantage of it. Do it for the children who failed to survive the same problem.
Chishiya seemed to be a parallel of you. Appreciating life? Eh, he didn't know what to expect out of it. You understood how one could think that way, especially Chishiya. He barely had anything to live for, sure he had a great career but it wasn't enough. His parents surely never showed him the existence of love or care for another person.
The closest anyone could do that for him, would be your existence. You were the only one Chishiya could pick as someone he could conjure up emotions and care for.
He had since the day you were born and diagnosed with your heart defect. He was there since the beginning and it was only natural that it was the two of you always.
"Chishiyaaaa, come here this bed is soooo soft, I might just pass out."
He smiled slightly before going back to an emotionless expression. He started stepping towards the direction of your voice. Upon reaching you, he pulled his hand out of his pockets and felt the bed. He actually had a reaction and let it show, the bed was hella soft.
"Then let's rest here tonight," he said as you climbed into the bed. As soon as your head hit the pillow, you practically passed out, just as predicted.
Chishiya however sat there comfortably. He thought about things, a lot of things.
Eventually hours go by before suddenly a bright light erupts from outside. Chishiya slowly climbed out and walked over to the windows. A building had been lit up. Chishiya became too curious. He walked back towards your sleeping body, covering you with the blanket as much as he could.
He found a piece of paper and pen, and proceeded to write a note about his whereabouts, in the chance he does not return by morning.
Before he leaves, he makes sure you are as safe as you can be. In the chance there are other human beings, well...let's not dive into that.
He walks out of the mall and makes his way toward the building lit up, which he soon realized was a restaurant.
As he arrived he saw 4 other people. Three men and a woman. As he looked around, he noticed a sign that said "one per person". Phones were displayed. There was only one left, as the others must've taken one. He picked it up, hoping it had signal, but alas, it did not.
"Say," he spoke up to the others, "could people truly die in this world?"
One of the men scoffed but didn't give him an answer. The group made their way into the only table in the restaurant. A voice came from the phones. He looked down to see a white screen with writing.

The game will now commenceGame: Blackjack
Level of Difficulty: Six of Diamonds
Rules: Basic Blackjack Rules (too lazy sorry); caught cheating you may be face to face with death; running out of chips will result in death
Clear Condition: Be the last surviving playerAs the game started, it was a bit confusing to get used to. Chishiya had never played Blackjack before coming to this place. Luckily, he was a brilliant person and caught on quickly.
Eventually he was able to come up with a strategy, a Card Counting Theory. This would help him determine when it's best to bet greater or smaller quantities.
And even then, there were cheaters, of course there were, when was there not?
One man had something called a shiner, a ring that was designed to reflect the mark of a card. Eventually throughout the game he lost all his chips. That's when suddenly, a noise went through the building and the man was pulled out of his seat by the noose. He was hung.
A man Chishiya soon learned was a magician, was caught cheating by dealing seconds in his turn. This manipulated the deck and overall the game, so the other male, known as the "Card Mechanic" used the gun of judgement against him.
Next was the Card Mechanic himself, as he was too caught cheating by sleeving two cards.
Lastly, the woman too cheated, marking the cards with her dark red nails. However this is not what caused her loss, as she simply had ran out of chips.
Chishiya emerged victorious. As the room finally fell silent from any remaining breath the dead wished to have, he let out a deep sigh of relief, letting his face fall into his propped up hands. He didn't want to think about what might happen to you after finding out that this world depended on games of life or death. You experiencing any of this alone shook him up.
After he regained his nerves and let himself relax, he stood up, taking the noose off his neck.
That's when he finally took another look at the center of the table. The box that held the gun had a single playing card on it.
Six of Diamonds
Next to it was also a pistol magazine. Chishiya took the opportunity for protection and grabbed the gun and it's magazine. And clearly this card was meant to be taken, so of course he took it, placing both items in his pockets.
He finally made his way back to you...
