𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐘𝐍 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐃𝐎𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄. Home. The place where one comes from, where one's supposed to belong. They say home is not a place but a feeling, and Sigyn finally understood that. Once King Harald and Ivar's army arrived in Kattegat to claim what they'd battled for, Sigyn left her companions and moved her horse to the direction of her childhood home. The shieldmaiden had no interest in joining the vengeful men in getting drunk and plotting how they'd catch Lagertha and her supporters — the former queen was undoubtedly far away from them by now.

Floki and Helga used to live in a secluded area of the woods on the outskirts of Kattegat. They had a cabin hidden by trees and a separate area near the water where the boat builder worked. On the outside, everything looked the same. Sigyn almost expected her mother to open the cabin door smiling beautifully like she always did and hug her saying it had all been a nightmare.

Sigyn missed her mother terribly.

A heavy layer of snow had settled in front of the old couple's abandoned home, making it difficult for their daughter to open the door, but she managed it after some struggle. The winter wonderland outside was much more welcoming than the empty cabin Sigyn stared at with tearful eyes. Looking past the dust and the clear signs of abandonment, everything looked the same.

Closing her eyes, the brunette could see Helga humming a song while preparing their supper. The mother would look up from her task and smile at her daughter right before ushering the girl inside demanding to hear all about her training in Hedeby, or whatever it was that Sigyn had been up to. So while Ivar and the others dealt with the aftermath of their war — which included finding Lagertha and receiving a visit from 'uncle' Rollo —, Sigyn remained secluded in her childhood home. The company of ghosts seemed much more appealing than the company of the living.

𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐋 𝐌𝐔𝐂𝐇 𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑 on the following day, that Sigyn decided to venture into the heart of Kattegat. The town wasn't much different from when the young woman left all those months ago, there were wooden huts everywhere, busy people buying and selling goods, and goats wandered about as some random kids ran after them... It'd be all the same if it wasn't for the tense demeanor the old folk noticeably had. The shift in power meant uncertainty, especially when the new person in charge was someone like Ivar Lothbrook. The sadistic cripple prince — now king. Sigyn herself was uneasy about the youngest Ragnarsson's reign.

The young woman strolled aimlessly around Kattegat for hours, delaying her interaction with others as much as she could. But once she saw the sun go down and most people started headed to one place, the great hall, Sigyn ended up joining. The biggest construction in their town was where the king lived, and also where they held feasts — abundant, loud, messy feasts. Inside the Vikings laughed and talked without care while eating and drinking. There was music being played and everyone seemed so happy as if they hadn't been in battle days ago — Sigyn suppose their joy had a lot to do with the alcohol they had been consuming.
