"Hvitserk, enough!" Sigyn growled, her breath coming in quick bursts as she spun away from his next strike.
He came at her again, this time more aggressively. "It's time for you to come to your senses!" he spat, swinging his sword toward her with more force. She blocked it easily, her muscles tense with the effort. "Why do you stay with Ivar?" Hvitserk pressed, his voice raw with frustration, eyes narrowing as he stepped back, preparing for another strike.
Sigyn deflected the blow, her own eyes blazing with fury. "For one," she gritted out between breaths, parrying his next swing, "he didn't cheat on me."
The accusation hung in the air like a heavy storm cloud. Hvitserk's jaw clenched, and for a brief second, his attacks faltered. "Are we still on that?" he scoffed, raising his sword again. The mockery in his voice earned him a dangerous glare from Sigyn.
She thrust forward, forcing him to take a step back. "Did you know he killed her?" the prince's voice cracked, a flicker of pain crossing his face. "Thora. The innocent girl I loved."
The admission stopped Sigyn for a heartbeat, but only for a moment. She slashed at his side, forcing him to block her, before murmuring through clenched teeth, "I tried to stop it."
Hvitserk swung wildly, his emotions spilling into his combat. His strikes were hard but imprecise, driven by frustration rather than strategy. "I believe you!" he grunted, their swords clanging again. He stepped closer, his face inches from hers. "Just like I believe you don't belong next to a monster like Ivar!"
The words hit harder than his blade, Sigyn's mind raced, processing his plea, but her body kept moving, countering his attacks with deadly precision. The former lovers would've kept going longer if it weren't for a sudden pair of strong hands that grabbed Sigyn from behind, yanking her away from the fight. She twisted violently, trying to break free, but the grip was unyielding.
"What are you doing?" Sigyn growled, her eyes flashing with fury as she kicked and struggled against the hold.
One of Ivar's henchmen, a large man with a grim expression, tightened his grasp on her arm and pulled her away with forceful determination. "Ivar needs you," he barked. "Now!"
Behind them, more of Ivar's soldiers stepped in to engage Hvitserk and the others, their swords slashing through the air to distract him and give Sigyn no chance to return to the fight.
