Why I love the Tom Gates Books
Background information on Liz Pichon and the books:
The Tom Gates books are written and illustrated by Liz Pichon. The first Tom Gates book titled The Brilliant World of Tom Gates was published in the year 2011. According to the Guardian. Liz Pichon has shared that it takes 5 to 6 months to write a book and she would love to take longer.
How I got into the books:
I had a couple of books sent to me by my neighbors to borrow, most of all of the books were Tom Gates books with an exception of Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hard Luck. I thought to myself "I did reject this series back in fifth grade but hey I could give it a try. I haven't actually read it before". I read the books and I was hooked! I just didn't want to put them down; they are so funny and intriguing despite the fact that I wasn't a kid anymore but I still enjoyed them as I am quite a kid at heart.
Who do I recommend the Tom Gates books for:
My optimal recommendation is 9-12 year old's as the book are written in an accessible language to this age group and recount their main pet peeves about school and family which are the most important things in their lives. The language is relatively accessible and the books are relatable. Hence, they will spark some interest with reluctant readers.
If you are a teenager or adult you might not like these books as much as the kids would, but if you are a kid at heart like me and or are looking for some nostalgia, the Tom Gates books are perfect for you.
P.s: I wrote this a few years back. So if the style feels different then that's why.
