Chapter 10: I RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD BUS

As the chapter title was read Percy's eyes widened.

Quickly turning to her father, she had moved back to Sirius in between chapters, Percy had a note of panic in her tone as she said, "You're not allowed to kill anyone." Poseidon raised a skeptical brow at his daughter. "What would warrant me to commit the act, Seastar?" Letting out a harsh breath, she bobs her bead back and forth before replying, "Me being in mortal danger and fighting monsters." Instantly the sea gods aura darkened. "What." Trying to lighten the blow for the person that would inevitably be feeling Poseidon's anger, Percy said, "Everything was fine! We fought them off without a scratch!"

From her right she heard Grover mumble, "Maybe not scratched, but we sure as hell got burned." Without a second thought Percy leaned over Sirius's lap and punched Grover's arm.

As Grover yelled in pain, with Annabeth trying to console him, Percy looked back to her father with as innocent of an expression as she could pull off. Smiling she said, "Just withhold your judgement until you have learned all the facts, Dad. I promise, everything will be fine." Poseidon couldn't help the uneasy feeling after his daughter's words, but he gave her a nod of acknowledgement nonetheless.

It didn't take me long to pack. I knew to leave the Minotaur horn in my cabin, which left me with my backpack I came into camp with. I had extra changes of clothes, a toothbrush, money I earned from selling candy from my dorm at Yancy that I kept hidden, and other health type essentials.

Percy felt the looks from her friends and people in the hall. Not looking back at any of them she said, "Yes, I illegally sold candy from my dorm for money at 12 years old. No, I don't want to talk about it." After a few seconds they obeyed her wishes and looked away.

James Potter on the other hand seemed to have stars in his eyes. As he turned to look at Remus, the werewolf let out an unnoticeable sigh, preparing himself for whatever came out of the other boy's mouth. In an excited whisper James asked, "Rem, why haven't we ever done something like that?!" Remus couldn't help the small smile that graced his lips. Minutely shaking his head, he whispered back, "You had a similar idea in our third year, Jamie. It was stopped before you could follow through though, remember?" James thought for a moment before his expression morphed into an adorable pout. "Oh, yeah."

Across the hall one person had to hide their fond expression as they watched two of their favorite people interact.

The camp store loaned me one hundred dollars in mortal money, even though I didn't need it, but I wouldn't tell them that, and twenty golden drachmas. These coins were as big as Girl Scout cookies and had images of various Greek gods stamped on one side and the Empire State Building on the other. The ancient mortal drachmas had been silver, Chiron told us, but Olympians never used less than pure gold. Chiron said the coins might come in handy for non-mortal transactions. The fact that he thought we might be making trades with gods was astounding to me. He gave Sirius, Annabeth, and I each a canteen of nectar and a Ziploc bag full of ambrosia squares, to be used only in emergencies, if we were seriously hurt. It was god food, Chiron reminded us. It would cure us of almost any injury, but it was lethal to mortals. Too much of it would make a half-blood very, very feverish. An overdoes would burn us up, literally.

Annabeth was bringing her magic Yankees cap, which she told me had been a twelfth birthday present from her mom. She carried a book on famous classical architecture, written in Ancient Greek, to read when she got bored. I didn't voice my opinion, but when she said she was bringing a book for when she got bored, I almost threatened her with my sword again. We were going on a quest where monsters were inevitably going to show up to try and kill us. She didn't need to be distracted by trying to read about how to build infrastructure.
